Columbia. We ate lunch at the St. Pete Pier location and it was incredible. Food was outstanding, very reasonably priced, and the view was awesome. Every seat overlooks the bay!
La Terasita (?) is also very good for great, cheap cuban food if you don't need the ambiance.

and for lunch on a weekday, it's cheaper, better tasting, and more filling than applebee's.

Latin cafe' in brandon actually makes real Cuban sandwich's they way the are supposed to be made and they are the best in the are imo. no lettuce, tomato, mayo or salami(sp?) and they dont even ask if you want it pressed, they just press it like it should be! Oh and you are supposed to eat white rice with black beans not yellow!

for messican, gotta go with estellas on the DI
cuban, tito's or pipo's or whatever the hell it is right off of henderson and dale mabry, can't remember the exact name of the street it's on, but it's in the same plaza as blockbuster and quiznos on DM. closest thing i've had to kickuaround's grandma's food, which is the best ever.

Not formal, I would say a nice shirt (no logo's or anything) and jeans would be sufficient.

I've never been a real big fan of spanish/mexican food, but every once in a blue moon when i crave it, I hit up Columbia restaurant in Ybor or Carmelita's in St. Pete. Oh yeah and Gordo's up in Oldsmar (?), that place is real good too.

I've heard Pepitos off of Ehrlich is supposed to be good.
Mexican: Estella's on Davis Island
Cuban: Cafe Con Trey on Kennedy
Going to have go with La Tropicana in Ybor for the cuban sandwhich and stuffed potato.
I have to disagree, La Tropicana might have the worst cuban sandwich in town, they don't even own a goddamn sandwich press. (not joking)
My favorite cuban in Ybor is from La Segunda Bakery on 15th north of I4. Its takeout only, they're not open on the weekends or for dinner, but when they're open, their sandwiches are the shit. They bake the majority of the cuban bread that you find in Tampa cuban restaurants as well. West Tampa Sandwich Shop is also exceptional and has more working hours. They're on Armenia between Columbus and MLK.
As far as Mexican Vallarta's is very good.
Can't argue there! I think the 50th St location has the best food, although the one on 54 isn't bad either.
Why did mexican and cuban food get thrown into the same post!

My mom or grandfathers kitchen. Okay so its not a resturant but its really good cuban food. For those that like flans my mom makes the best flan you will ever try, no joke. Next tr/tf meet i'll have her make one if enough people want to try it. Or i could just eat it all myself. Her coconut flan is the best. And there is a cuban sandwich shop east of himes and between tampa bay blvd and columbus that is great but i cant remember the name..starts with an "I" i believe, old age sucks ha.
