Most millionaires gained most of their money through real estate, so why do most people invest in stocks/bonds? Doesn't make much sense.

Seems like shallow thinking. I know that the week after the IPO of UPS (shipping company) there were hundreds of new millionaires. Google's IPO also made many people incredibly wealthy.
Real estate is the place to make money, sure. But, to double a person's money, there is an initial investment of 10's of 1000's. To make a couple grand with stocks - a few hundred dollars will do it. Bonds suck at the moment, in my opinion.

You dont hear about all the people that lost their ass in real estate. It does happen more than you think.

stocks and mutual funds are a really good way to make a lot of money long term because you can invest VERY small amounts of money over long periods of time, whereas real estate has a HIGH initial buy-in.

The more risk the more money. I like real estate myself and with the prices down here there is no reason not to make a lot of cash. Anybody wanna join me in a few real estate courses?

the stock market year in and year out outperforms real estate growth as a whole. the only reason you hear about so many "real estate millionaires" is because of the advertising market is flooded with get rich quick real estate systems being sold by fly by night con artists. statistically speaking, you have a far better chance making money by properly investing it in the stock market than you do in real estate speculation. that being said, diversification is the name of the game. i'd be willing to bet the vast majority (if not all) of those real estate millionaires have large amounts of money coming in in mutual funds and stocks.
