Never maxed anything but Squat today was a personal record, of course numbers are just numbers, they almost mean nothing comparing people. but I'm willing to get this party started.

1x10x135#
1x10x225#
1x10x315#
1x12x405#
1x15x135#

Heaviest Deadlift was 515x3
Heaviest Bent BB Row was 315x3

I would have thought you'd max at more than that.

that's what i work out with. i really have no idea what i max at. i'd guess 250 or so. i've never really had that much higher max than i work out with though.

You sound exactly like me, although ur 3 inches shorter.. I start with 135 to warm up, then throw on a 10 or 2 to work out with..

How many times constitutes a max? "1"? I dont know, I never tried that. I've done a set of 245, 8 reps.

A max would consist of 1 range of motion without possiblity of another completely unassisted. Pretty much everyone in the bodybuilding world considers your highest workset a personal record. a pr is usually about 80-85% of 1rom

mathematicly if you can do something around 10 times your max SHOULD be around 40-50lbs more

if you can lift 226 10 reps, your max is around 300 (on chest)

I put up 205 the other day... was pretty stoked

Seriously depends on the exercise in question. I know you said "should be" but 10x on squats your gonna have alot higher max possibly up to 90-100lbs and of course on the other extreme with say a post delt (rear shoulder) exercise you might only max at 10lbs more. Also you have to consider training types, because some people train for endurance and may be able to put up a weight 20 times for say bench, but you increase it 15lbs and they struggle to get 8 reps.

Of course there is different variables to anything and it does depend on certain excercises but for the majority of them ive found that formula has held pretty true for the last 8 years for me

My flat workout goes like this

warm up 185x8, 205x6

then the workout - 225x12/12 (depending on day, some assistance on last 3-4) 255x8/10, 275x5-6, 295x3, 315x1(If I feel good).

If Im "stuck doing dumbells I start off with 80s and do 14, go to 90x10, 95x8, 100x6, 110x3

then for incline bench I do 165 warm up 5-6 times just so I get used to the different motion. Then go to 185x6, 205x5, 225x3, 245x1.

For dumbell its 70x12, 75x10, 80x8, 85x6 then I stop. Hard to get 90s up w/o a spotter. Ill waste all my energy getting them up.

For decline I do dumbell ONLY. Ill get the 80lbers and do 3x10, or atleast try to if Im tired, which I usually am.

Seems like you guys care mainly about bench LOL.

Im not allowed to squat for now with my enlarged spleen. Im getting a biopsy done next week to figure out what the hell is wrong.

My old lower body PRs before spleen bullshit - squat 415lbs, leg press ~900 lbs (schools leg press sled), deadlift was around 345.

I dont do deadlifts anymore. Bad for the back. I do bodyweight and every now and then Ill go to the barbell and rep out 225 but Ive seen too many older people say dont do deadlift my back is all screwed up blah blah, and I dont want any back pains in the next few years LOL.

My personal best max is 300 and that was a few years ago. I haven't maxed in a long time but right now I'm working out with 205 3x10. Squats pre-accident I was working out with 365 3x10 now barely 135 3x10. :(

I never max. Theres no point to it for me. I also dont have a spotter or partner anymore so Im solo. When I was working on the benches (I do the hammer machines and free weights now) I was working with ~250 x 6 and on decline I was doing 300 x 6 (couldnt do incline at the time because of my neck injury).

I havent been able to get a GOOD spotter or work out for awhile :thumbdwn:. My friend who I used to workout with bitches and moans and doesnt feel like putting in the extra set (wonders why he has slow muscle growth).

I cant do forced reps or maxes by myself. Shit I was doing bench wil dumbells yesterday on incline and had to force myself to get the 85s in the air (did 4 :) ).

Yea we do have alot of strong people on TR, but dont be afraid to post your stats lol. The worst thing to do is go into the gym intimidated. Those guys that look like assholes and stand straight up are the ones getting a bad ass pump. If a workout feels goofy, but give you good results then I would personally do them and if anyone says anything, fuck em.

End of rant.

Lets see those stats Vito.

No idea what my maxes are... I typically do 4 sets of 12-15 upper body and 4 sets of 20 lower body. Trying to get lean and get down under 200 lbs.

Never really done bench press (pretty bad for the shoulders and I was a baseball player) but I would do dumbell bench. Would rep 75-85lbs x 4-6 if the coaches were watching (all they cared about was you putting as much weight and size on as possible) and 45lbs x 12 if it was just me working out. Was never really a big fan of trying to get a big chest.

Dunecune442
07-19-2005, 03:30 PM
bench press in only bad when you slam the weight or go all the way down. Try going up to about 1.5 inches from your chest. I have bad rotator cuffs and That made my shoulders feel a whole lot better.

That and heres a good shoulder exercise if you have a problem with your frontal deltoids.

Stand up straight, arms 90 degrees sticking forward. Have a 20-30 pound dumbell in your hand and move your arm, without squirming away from you, kind of like when you move you arms like a chicken. Its hard to explain, but its just a fly motion.

Meh, fuck all of you.

When i was at my strongest, i maxed (bench) at 225, now that i've been out for 6 months, i've been back in for three weeks and i'm working out with 135. I'm squatting and deadlifting 185, i never did those before so i have no previous stats. I'm curling about 75-90 (on the machines, only about 50-60ish with a BB).

Anyway, that's all i got to post. I'm a weak pussy, someone come hold me.

I feel like I get just as good a chest workout with the free weights as with the bar... if not better. And I do FSR's everytime I work out with light weight generally.... 10lbs or so... If I am just at home I will use a 20lb weight (i only have 20's and 35's at my house) and do 21's... .7xfront, 7xside, 7xrear with no rest in between each set of 7.

Frankie

I have no idea what my maxes are either, but I can tell you what I work out with. Squats 355, shrugs 240, incline bench 180, flat bench 200, decline bench 240, butterflies 110, preacher curls 90-110, cabled lat pulldowns 140, cabled tricep pulldowns 70, seated tricep push-downs 120, military presses 150, and I'm sure theres some other shit I forgot about that I do at the gym too.

That alcohol really makes me skinny with a beergut regardless of what I can lift though

Dumbells are for cut, bar is for mass typically.

I alternate it. If you dont put some variety your gains will be minimal in comparison to what you can actually achieve. Try it out for alittle, two weeks barbell two weeks dumbell and alternate.

What do you mean "dumbells are for cut"? Logically, DB's will make you bigger over all because you're using different supporting muscles than if you were using a BB.

That has nothing to do with dumbells or bar. dumbells might actually make you bigger cause you use more stabilizers. You wanna slim down? do body weight exercises it will lean you out an take off the bulk. I see alot of you are posting up internet numbers here, very entertaining

I know it makes sense vito whoaaaaa. Logically yes, reality no. Your using less of your large, main muscle with dumbells. With barbell your really only hitting a relatively small area. With dumbells its the whole damn chest/deltoid and even lats with alot less weight. Hell I can do 315 with a barbell, but when it comes to dumbell 110 in each hand is all I can do (they dont have higher weight at lifestyles on dalemabry :dunno: ).

And boost these are real numbers... btw. Ill post pics shortly soon as I can get someone to take a pic of me working out...

Vito_Corleone
07-19-2005, 08:08 PM
Hmm. Well, it does make sense that you can life more weights with a BB, so that, in turn, will make THOSE muscles bigger depending on the group. I like the idea of having more a range of motion, i'll probably stick with DB's for a lot of stuff.

Raider926
07-19-2005, 08:14 PM
BB will make you massive, dbs just hit the same muscles at different angles and hit/strengthen stablizers, which is key to passing plateau weights with BBs.

They are both tools to get results, can't have one without the other for "opuimum" results.

If your in any kind of gym worth while, look around at the peoples weights, talk to them. Perfect example, someone I helped with squats was only squatting 180lbs I gave him help for acouple weeks and his squats in just 2 months went up to 315# That was just a random dude at my gym. and he only weighed about 170lbs

I made the first comment because BoosTb4BroaDs “ive been in the game for a long time and I’ve never seen so many guys at or under 200lbs with 300+lbs bench presses and 350+ squats.” There are a lot of people out there that can put up some serious weight on lighter frames.

I don’t believe half of the stuff I’m seeing in these threads, that’s why I said most people here only care about their cars and computers. That’s one thing I can't stand is talking about lifting to people with inferiority complexes, lifting is about personal results. Like I said on almost my first post, it’s not about the weight. You need to check your ego at the door, it’s about progression, and the reason most of the people whine about not being able to lift the big boy weights is because they try too hard maxing out all the time. Can't do it get discouraged and say fuck it.

But that would be a damn good TF event, would be a powerlifting comp. I’m game!

Id bet a smaller privately owned gym would let a bunch of us go in for a day if we paid a small fee.Millenium is low key...BodyMill might be too strict along with the other larger gyms. I would def be down to learn more exercizes and meet more people interested in lifting. I have been at it for 2 1/2 years consistent now...Thats minimal compared to some people on here, but Im consitent as hell and damn proud of it. Would be great to move some iron and see who will put up and who needs to shut up. Id bet alot of pepple wouldnt end up showing though...Who knows..
Today was def a good day for me with chest workout. On flat bench, Put up the 90lb dumbells 8 times without my spotters help and 2 more assisted for lack of energy and form. One day ill make it to the 100's..Till then its a hell of a struggle.

1. I know there are plenty of guys putting up big numbers im not disagreeing with you

2. I call BS cause it seems to me that every one has a 300+lbs bench or 350+ squat, granted im sure theres people on here that can do it with ease. BUT i'll tell you, you dont see TOO MANY dudes throwing up 300+ lbs of free weights that are floating at or under 200lbs which the majority of these people are. And to my knowledge there arent TOO MANY long time lifters posting right here from what ive read the majority just started 0-3 years ago. So i put 2 + 2 together thats all, do you feel me?

3. I agree pick a gym or someone have a home gym??(might make people pay 10 bucks if they arent members) and pick a day i wanna see all these 300lbs bench presses an 350+lbs squats , impress me please. I'll compete coming off a year lay off due to jacked rotor cuff. MAKE IT HAPPEN VITO!

Home gyms aren't going to have what we need, it would have to be a real gym. LS has guest passes, we can do it next Thursday if all you guys want, i have Thursday and Friday, you just have to come in and say you'd like to try out the facility.

I'm obviously up for it, i couldn't care less about all your egos, i know what i can do, and it should be obvious that i'm not lying (my numbers are too low to be lies hahahaha).

I havent tried 315 in ages... shoulders would hurt way too much and not worth it...minimal gains. I cant squat any heavy weight(free weight), I have to use the machine. For some reason it puts alot less stress on my abdomen (spleen) so hmm whatever it works.

Yea Im down for lifestyles though. Me and Vito can jack a bunch of them (I have gold pass, I can go to any lifestyles in Florida) and just hand them to everyone before hand.

Funny thing is I havent seen many people posting anything over 300 bench or 350 for squats..Whos claming that much?
Also I think if we are going to see who can do what, Why limit it to just Shoulders, chest, and squats...Thats 3 fricken exercises lol. If we are going to waist our time..Why not see who curls most on precher bench, Who can do heavist skull crushers? These are all important muscle groups too. I could care less who can bench most or squat most. Much more impressive to see who is more well rounded and conditions the best, that in my eyes is real training. I understand the long time lifters here call BS on some people, So show up and help the dedicated 0-3 year lifters with some advice. Just my opinion,Fuck the posers..I may not lift the most, but I hold my own for my weight and age.
Im def down to hit up a gym day.Sounds like fun :-D

I benched 315 in my bulking phases and squatted 415 before I fucked my knee (its much better now, I still refuse to go that heavy for awhile).

Im in my cutting phase right now and only do reps, no 1mr. He probably got it from my post.

Matt, see the "TF GYM DAY" thread I started.

You should see that fucking animal in the gym too. Forge is a big bastard. He can also vouch for my under 200lb ass squatting 355 and benching the numbers I claimed, ya non-believin' bastards. Shit, looking at me, I wouldn't believe me either :P

Never tried to max......

Flat bench I usually work multiple reps with 135(twice for a warmup), then 155x10, then 185x10, and 205x10, and go for a few at 225.

Never tried to max it out - don't really care :p

With respect to people calling BS......I would'nt really look at the person's weight........the most important thing IMO is how long they have been working out. I can believe a guy that weighs 150 saying he can bench 225......IF he has been working out hard for a few years.

To me, it's just basically how long you have been working out.

I started in April. I was REALLY weak when I started. I'm not strong now just a little less weak lol. I've pretty much doubled all my lifts. I can't do squats or deadlifts because I've wrecked my back, and I don't do barbell press because I don't have a spot. So I do mostly dumbells. I started with 35s on flat bench. Right now I'm at 70s 8x4. Incline I started with 25s. Now I'm at 55s 8x4. Etc.

When I started I weighed 155 (6'1). I'm stuck at 172 now (I'm not eating as much as I did before....I'm lazy)

That's the most important thing to me. It's not the numbers. It's improvement, getting stronger. The other thing is form. If I feel like I can do a little lighter weight and be able to focus on my form more (but still keep my reps under 12), I'll opt for the lower weight.

Im 5'11" 230lbs just went back to the gym for the frist time this monday and I reped out 275 10x I was so surprised i could even do that my max that day was 340 on the flat bench. Incline i only use dumbells (most of the time) and i use anywhere from 80lbs to warm up with then my final set i use 130lbs for about 8 reps. My legs are stronmg as shit imo i can squat 450 10x all day

HAHA vito, you pussy. jfwy

I bench rougly 115, gonna go for 125 next workout.

For squats, if I do competition legal, I can do around 175, partials I can push near 300.

And I only curl around 50 for a standing barbell, and I don't have my back move at all.

I did 225x12 on Monday just to see where I was. I haven't had a good routine since May due to road trips, shows, etc. I should be back to my old size in about 6 weeks. Which would put my max at 325 for flat bench. I really like working biceps, and can curl the 60lb dumbells 3x8. Skullcrushers are at 3x10 @ 115. I do bent over dumbbell rows 3x8 @ 100lbs. I haven't done squats for a while, I used to do 3x10 @ 405lbs. I know I can't do that now, but I have been doing 630 on leg press 2x10.

Right now on bench I'm going 135x10, 190x10, 215x8, 230x6. Dips I strap a 45 plate on my waist and do that 3x10. Shoulder press I'm using 70 lb dumbbells. Legs are still pathetic so I'm not even going to bother.
