I've asked b4 but I'll ask again, if you had 10k to start a biz with no bank financing, or real estate investing, what would you do?

First: I said no real estate
Second: I know its one of the mosty popular ways to make a fortune, but honestly who on TR has done it?? Everyone makes it sounds like its the simplest thing in the world to do, but I dont think anyone on TR has actually done it. Maybe FLBigDog? :dunno:

bar/restaurant or new/used music store.
EDIT after a lot of thought i realized that you would need some good bank financing to get one of those of the ground... so why not just start a porn website?

Ive been looking for something as well. As far as Real estate goes, new investers has flooded the market. The good deals are far and few between. Because everyone knows prices in florida has soared. Ive researched and took classes etc...and dont feel excited about the prospects. Just my opinion.

i would probably split it up in a bunch of different mutual funds/stocks and let it sit for about 10 years. theorhetically, it should be worth like $25-30K then, and still growing....

my dad went from delivering pizzas to pay for real estate classes 7 years ago to running his own brokerage in a historic home in south tampa. So to answer your question it really is easy as long as you have a good start. be an agent for 3-4 years then if you want start investing.
BTW soon as I get 10k Im going for a 10%, 10%, 80% loan (variable interest right?). Ill be 18. Just get a decent house, fix it while you live there and rent the rooms out to pay for the mortgage. Thats what Im going to do.

Some type of merchandising. 10k isn't much money at all, but it sure will buy a lot of small shit in bulk, then sell on ebay, or somewhere else.

Spend part of the money at school learning a trade... a/c, electric... then work some where for a little while (invest the other part of the money during that time) and then go into business for yourself. If the business fails you still have the trade and can get a job somewhere.
Or, what vito said... you can get merchandise real cheap, but competition is fierce

Telecom. Like we've already started for nowhere near $10k.
Find something skill related, that you excel at.
Albeit most contractors become contractors after already being trained in their fields of expertise.
My boss (brotherinlaw) who did it for X amount of years, then trained me, then trained another, etc. Amazing to see the business grow. And it's booming out of this world.
That or porn.
Everyone wants a cell phone, titties, and a car.
I'm actually debating on beginning a programming Inc. and gearing it towards automotive/factory automatic machinery system engineering.
That's also a huge, huge, enormous business.
And no, we don't sell phones. We audit/inspect/maintain towers.

For the people who said real estate. What the hell kind of real estate would you buy with 10k?

down payment. find the right seller (read: motivated) and flip it quick for 10-30k more than you just bought it for.

In a 10-10-80 purchase of a home you put 10% down, have the seller take a 2nd mortgage for 10k and finance 80% of the purchase price. You essentialy have two parties to pay back but the bank thinks you have more equity then you really have.
You only need 10-20% equity. If your an investor 100% financing is not very good.
So you have a home youd like to buy that 80,000. 10,000 would put you at a relatively high equity. You can then live in that home and fix it over a period of 1-2 years. After that use most, if not all of your profit and continue buying homes, except this time purchase a slightly more expensive home. After a certain amount of profit and X years you can now have a crew. At X years you should have 2-3 homes that need work. Have your crew do little things, and have a contractor pull permits. Best thing would be to study for a contractor license(s); more the better, and pull your own permits. A contractor will charge you hundreds, you can do it for less than $100. Start doing things in house.
10k isnt much, but Im going to start buying my first home with $15,000, live in it through most of college while fixing little things and having my dad pull permits. After that Ill flip it. As long as you have a will, and a steady side job to bring in some capital then 10k is more than enough for a first time investor, a low enough amount to not send you in the poorhouse but enough to get a decent property.
Either that or you can buy some acerage in hernando, around Ocala or some lots in West Tampa and sit on them for 3-5 years and sell them to an investor/subdivider.

I started with $2,500 for all of my movie making stuff (minus the computer) and have made over 6 thousand dollars so far... im sure i could do quite well with a 10K investment.

or you could take that 10k and invest it in getting yourself licensed in real estate (or some other profesional type service, preferably one you're already knowledgeable in), use the remaining $9k for a direct marketing campaign and SELL SELL SELL!.

depends on my goals. i'm going to school most likely for law, so if this would be a business venture to supplement my professional income, i might go with something a little more risky but a lot more fun, such as selling art or performing music. if it was going to be something to sustain me, i'd have to do a lot more thinking. my boyfriend's graphics business, i think, would go far with ten grand to get him started (equpiment, supplies, and advertising ONLY, until enough profit is made to advance from a home-based business). something like that might be a good idea.

well my parents started a cabinet business with a little over that and there doing very good now.
Personally, If I got 10k to start a business. I think I would buy billboards or soda machines and just take the profit from them and live nice.
