How much you expect to psay is how much you wanna pay and what features you want. Nikons are anywhere from $100-$5000

it depends on what you wanna do with it. do you want just a quickshot type camera? i've got a nikon 4800, it was like $400 and i love it. of course i'd also like a digital slr, but thats big money!

Narrow it down to a price range and type of camera. If you are looking for a DSLR check out the thread Mark started in this forum.

Probably something like a digital Rebel, then, would be good for you. You will likely have to break the $500 mark, but you will have a digital SLR with good features and interchangable Canon optics. My suggestion is to check out bhphotovideo.com. They are HUGE and have everything you may need. Great prices, too.

How did I miss this thread?
If you're wanting a Nikon DLSR, you'll be looking at about $800 for the entry model, the D50 which is well worth the wait until you can get to that amount.
If you're wanting a Nikon digital in your price range, you'll need to look at the CoolPix 7000 series and lower.

I think this question is going to be asked and asked and asked. Anybody up for a FAQ type thread? Comparing, contrasting.
