Is it true...the sometimes it's determined by your genes whether or not you get a nice set of abs? I have been working out for like 3 years...my arms are way better, my legs are much more defined...and my abs are okay, but there's this eety beety pooch that annoys the shit out of me...any advice?

Just modify your workout to target those areas more. There is really no big secret, healthy eating habits and good consistant exercise.

Keep your exercise the same and tighten up alot on your diet. Working muscles more only hardens for endurance trainers, if you see any growth it will only push your fat out farther. General consensus says you can't spot reduce fat.

in this situation diet is key.

If you have a "pooch", that's nothing to do with your abs, that's fat. Lose more fat.

having a layer of fat over the abs has nothing to do with genetics. the shape your abs take however is determined by genetics. some people have 4 packs, some 5, 6, 7, or 8, its all in the genes. cardio and diet will get rid of the layer of fat over them by dropping your overall bf%. in my opinion though, ripped abs aren't attractive on girls.

yes it's true, my opinion is as follows: 40% is determined by genetics, 30% by your work out, and 30% by your diet.

I see guys at the gym who come in for 15 mins and have horrible technique during reps and they are ripped. You also see people who have a shit diet and do not work out much who are tone.
Allot of how your body looks is determined by genetics, so just work with what your mama gave ya!

The layer of fat may have nothing to do with genetics, but how easily you can get rid of it does.

I have a friend who had a ring of fat on hs lower abs. For the longest time we were working out abs and I would be getting great results while his never went anywhere. We started a new routine of sitting in the sauna for 10-15 min to sweat out some uneeded fat. Within 3 weeks of sitting in the sauna every time we did abs both of us were obtainin awesome results.
So all in all..Try dropping your body fat % and Im sure you will get results.

Something else to note, I usually do abs after my workout every other day. Once my core workout was done and I switched to abs I would stop my water intake. So durring the ab workout I would intake no water, then go sweat out more in the sauna. If you intake enough water during your core workout you will not get dehydrated doing abs and the sauna....Once done try to only take in a minimal amount of water, get home and get your protein shake done with immedietly.
Make sure to switch from weighted ab exercises one day and calestenic exercises the next day of abs. Need to keep your body guessing to get good results.
Hope that helps a little..I took me almost 3 months to ge thte 6pack I wanted. Eveyones body is different..

i'm in the same boat as you kat! i used to never hafta work out my abs, i always had a perfect stomach with no effort untill a couple yrs ago. now its still nice, i just have to work at it to keep it nice and theres still that tiny layer of fat that i cant freakin get rid of!
i've bumped up my cardio now as well as changing my ab routine up and i've been working on my diet more. so, i'm gonna just see what happens now after a couple months i guess.

genetics do play some role... just in your metabolism though. Everyone has abs, you just have to uncover them. I got my dad's slow metabolism so I have to run my ass off everyday. I am seeing results though.

Just eat right, exercises and be patient. Itll take time but once you have them its relatively easy to keep them as long as your careful. Good luck.
