Okay, heres the situation.. I orig got my processor and Mobo from TWSI (think thats the place) that used to be here in Tampa. They were shut down for selling refurbed shit as new.

I currently have a ASUS A7V8X mobo

So I got it in my head that the reason my fucking computer shuts it self down from time to time is cause the motherboard or processor is a piece of shit.

Someone fucked with my computer when we loaded DOOM 3 on it (I'll keep your name out of it) and it's never been right since. Someone else looked at it and the settings were all kinds of fucked up an the PC was running waaay too hot and saftey shut down was kicking in. (I've never fucked with the bios before on a PC nor will I so I'm not to savey on how to check again) So we reset them for cooler temps and the pc did fine for a few weeks and its back to shutting down.

I have a big box, only two fans though on the box it self, but I always leave the side of the box open for more air. Still shuts down. I've had it. Seems I can't rip a DVD and do too much other shit or it shuts down.

Any suggestions? or should I shop for a new motherboard and processor ? is it a memory problem?

sounds to me like someone over clocked your shit mike and it didnt like it.

The easiest way is to get a new mobo/chip and ram .. reuse the rest.

newegg.com is the place to go to get it..

I'd suggest something like this :

* ASUS A7N8X-X Socket A (Socket 462) NVIDIA nForce2 400 ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail

AGP Slots: 1x AGP 8X/4X
CPU Type: Athlon XP/ Athlon/ Duron/ Sempron
DDR Standard: DDR 400 (PC 3200)
FSB: 400/333MHz
Maximum Memory Supported: 3GB
Number of DDR Slots: 3x 184pin DDR
PATA: 2 x ATA 133 up to 4 Devices
PCI Express x16: None
PCI Slots: 5
South Bridge: NVIDIA nForce2 MCP
* $60.50

AMD Athlon XP 3000+ 333MHz FSB Socket A Processor
AMD
* 2.167GHz
* 0.13 µm Barton
* 512KB L2 Cache
$139.00

* KINGMAX SuperRAM 512MB (2 x 256MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Unbuffered Dual Channel Kit System Memory Model MPXC22D-2K

Cas Latency: 2.5

You can go cheaper than this.. or more expensive.. depending on your budget.
