What do you do for recovery? When your muscles are killing you but you still want to make it to your next workout. What's everyone's tips that work for them?

Mine:
Hot bath
Ibuprofen
Walk it off (as much as possible)

Try and rest, work through it. I'll start of with a good stretch and then start whatever I'm doing a little slow and usually within a few minutes the muscles loosen up.

one never work a muscle if it hurt let it heal, work something else, plenty of sleep i take naps on off days, hot tub every night(2 times on of days) plenty of protein and calories to heal the muscles, and vitamins.

When I used to work out, I'd work through it. It will be gone pretty quickly once you start working out. Of course I always did cardio first so after an hour of running I was pretty limber

I am buying a weight bench this weekend so I'm going to get back into the swing of things! Haven't figured out cardio yet since my knees are shot and I'm prone to shin splints.

I just posted in the cardio thread, but biking takes too long and I don't have access to a pool. I'm in a severe money saving mode right now so I won't be getting a gym membership. If it comes down to it I'll run or ride a bike, but they all suck :(

i never worried about working out when sore. i'd just stretch like a mother fucker and then take it easy on the weight until the soreness went away.

+1 That's how I do it.

the soreness subsides after my first few sets. Afterwards I jump in the sauna for 10-20 minutes, take a hot shower and then a cold one right after. Its like jumping into a pool right after sitting in a hottub. That and I try to get 6-8 hours of sleep.

I did my calves on Monday night. Nothing big. I can barely walk today. My calves will not stretch out. They're all knotted up. I try stretching them out and then 15 minutes later it's right back to before. It feels like constant charley horses. I'm just so frustrated b/c no amount of ibuprofen is helping. I can barely walk, let alone work them out. This happened last week with my quads. Maybe I'm just lacking potassium.

did you just start back (it sounds like that)... you'll just have to live with it, and when you are able to get back to working those muscle groups out, do so. delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) hurts bad when you start working out, then it's a good hurt once you're in shape.

Yes and no. I didn't just start back, but I bumped it up these past two weeks. My arms feel fine and I've been working them just as hard, but my legs are killing me  I like the feeling of being sore, but this is just ridiculous.

Speaking of pain, does any one here get the "bone"?

Defenition of "bone"; a sharp, really painfull feeling in your forearm when doing curls. Feels like it is really deep and between the ulna and radial bones.

** I have decided that this is such a serious matter, that it deserves it's own thread **

if its pulled then i agree, if we are just talking about normal damage from a heavy workout, then thats up for debate. i personally hit all the same muscles every other day whether they are sore or not.
