Has anybody ever gone to a storage unit auction? Might find something interesting there, of course, might find dirty underwear too. I had never considered it till somebody mentioned that you could Ebay the crap you get. Made me think.....I might have to attend one of these to check them out.

My luck, I'd get the crusty underwear though

I'm curious what the average unit goes for at auction. I'd say any more than $50 and that would be a gamble.

have any of you guys ever looked into buying alot of soda machines or snack machines? I would imagine the owners of a bunch of those would start making good money, same with billboards on the sides of the road.... Are those stupid ideas?

billboards require a lot of upkeep. As far as storage unit auctions, my neighbor plays with those, its all he does. He seems to do pretty good, every couple of weeks he has some sort of new toy in his garage. One week its a set of new 4-wheelers, last week was a commercial riding mower. He paid $200 for the storage unit and ended up selling the mower a week later for $3k. Can be an easy way to make money, however you can't go through whats in there. They just open the door and you're just allowed to look before placing a bid. Could end up with a whole bunch of junk. I imagine if you played your odds and bought 5-10, you'd wind up with some pretty cool stuff, and a lot more junk than you'll ever know what to do with.

Charles,
My friend and I were doing EBAY auctions all the time. We went to yard sales religously on saturday mornings at 7am. We would go home and list the items in our inventory then post them on EBAY. THERE IS MONEY IN IT! However, it is time consuming as hell and you will have soo much shit that just gets ahuled to the dump. For instance, we found some old CB radio mics, something EAGLE was the brand, for like $1 and he gave us the other one. I went and listed BOTH on EBAY and one sold for $15 and the other for $45. That is a hell of a profit, but you need to move in VOLUME. I bought a sweet looking Gustavsberg bowl at a yard sale for $3, sold it for $40. Unique items, instruments, guns, and the like are what the good things to look for at yard sales are.

I went to ONE storage bay auction, shit...haha That is not to say you won't find one with a gold mine, but MOST are shit. Honeslty, would YOU leave 5k worth of shit in a storage bay for a $200.00 rental fee? Most people wouldn't but there are SOME that will.

The billboard thing I have actually been looking into. If you can find a property bordering an interstate and zoned to be able to put a billboard on it, you are in the $$ almost guaranteed. I friend of my mothers bought a property like that, a phone company is paying him $15k a year to have a billboard their. That MORE than pays the mortgage on the property and after holding it and profiting for 5 or so years, he could sell the property if he wanted to for more $$ or hold on to it and keep drawing in the payments.

I actually like the vending machine idea the best.

There is a guy on here that does it. I personally don't have a clue on how to get started. But I would have some ideas if I did get in an office building.

Ideas like this. http://www.commstarinc.com/ezr1.htm

Like if it was in an office building issue everybody cars where it acts like a credit card. Becuase I read in a survey that people are more than 50% more likely to spend doulbe at a vending machine if actually moeny wasn't being used (like vegas does, credit cards)

I would really like to get into something like this.

I also found this company

I guess they are like consultants.

ding ding ding, we have a winner....chris has the right idea....along time ago when I posted I needed dealers to sell some of my products that I import, out of about 30, only a few stuck with it and as you can see he is doing quite well...eBay is the key if you know what to sell and where to get it....
