2 Places to try, The Forest Hills Deli on North Blvd and Linebaugh and then Keystone Korner on the corner of Crawley Rd and Tarpon Springs Rd. Those 2 have some of the best cubans around that I have found. Keystone Korner is my personal favorite but I am not out there as much anymore to eat them and the Forest Hills Deli is right next to my house.

Latin Cafe' in Brandon is the only Cuban resturant in the Tampa area that I have been to that actually makes it the right way.
Cuban bread, pork, ham, swiss cheese, musturd, pickles and pressed. no lettuce, tomatoe, salami(sp?) or mayo. thats shit does not belong on a real Cuban sandwich

might have to try that out this weekend... i'll be up there at the madre's house.
My favorite is probably La Segunda Bakery in north Ybor (15th, north of I4). Its a takeout only, not super traditional but damn good. West Tampa Sandwich shop on Armenia is probably my favorite eat-in-traditional cuban. I've probably had cubans from 20 different locations in Tampa, those are my fav. I'm always down for trying something new though.

Agree. Cuban sandwiches are easy to make. Buy the ham, bread, etc., and assemble it and hot press it. Easy.

Cafe Kolao on 49th St in Pinellas Park has the best cuban hands-down. They actually use real roasted pork, like, you can watch them pull it off of the pig before it hits the sammitch. It's definitely choice.

CoCo Loco off Dale Mabry on Broad St. $2 for a half cuban (more than enough...trust me) and a coke. They have some kick ass breaded palimia steak as well. You get a HUGE piece and fries for I think $6.

Whatever you do, don't waste your time at the Joffrey's in Channelside. They ALWAYS burn them. And yet, I still eat them every day, I guess it's lack of better morning resturants around.

Best place I had one was at this little no name shop in a strip plaza at Memorial and Town N Country, little spanish place, charged $1.99 for a cuban... haven't had one as good since, place closed down so that sucks... now I gotta eat the ones here at work, which are surprisingly good as well. :)

Papi's on Armenia, on the west side of the road, just north of Hillsborough. No english spoken, $2.50 for a sandwich, they're great.
La Terra Cita makes a good one that's not too expensive (main one on Columbus, there's small ones splattered around).
And while I felt cheesy paying for a $6 cuban, there was a joint on Central in St Pete next to Central Cigars.. fantastic.. I think they went very citrusy (almost even some straight lemon juice) on the pork (no mojo creolo i've ever tasted were that lemony). Great.

The BEST cuban in the world goes to:
Country Market & Deli
(727) 327-0296

St Petersburg, FL 33713
They are only open M-F 10:30-4pm and Saturday from 10-4pm

You better mapquest it, or else you will NEVER find it...it's in a residential area, not far from where our own 'Pollo' used to live....

Actually that place is the JAM, I remember I used to skip mom's meal just so I can go to tha place. I give that place a rating of 5 - Fidel Castros.
Another place that's really good and I haven't looked at the rest of the thread but is that Airport Deli or whatever right accross from the St Pete/Clearwater airport... That place makes also pretty good cubans.

2. Larry's Deli- US 41 in Land O Lakes (grew up on those...The BEST gringo cuban ever)
Bearss Sandwich Shop is pretty good, a little place in Tarpon Springs on Alt 19 called Muzzies (but their BLT owns all-on homemade bread).
Don Pan was awful...I wondered how anyone could ruin a cuban... :thumbdwn:
