For those that do it 'professionally'.
Any tips? Is the $$$ made in the S&H, not the product? Do you reccomend any software products for managing auctions?
Any information would be awesome...not looking for 'products' nessacarily, more about concepts. Come on, share with your TF buddies!

turbo lister is a must. i try to over charge on shipping enough to cover the ebay fees, sometime more. hey, it's your "handling" charge since it does take time to get it to the post office and pack it.

i agree with this, the number 1 thing any business owner needs to know is to charge for your time, always, without exception.

definitly pad the handling for your time, and packing costs, if not a bit more (to cover fees). I generally figure out what that would be, and add it as handling,. and let people use the shipping calculator. i know its not the most forthcoming idea, but if people dont see 15$ for s&h, theyre more likely to bid, without using the calculator. but thats the bidder's responsibility.
just make sure to put as is somewhere in the ad, and no returns. its something generally hidden in the bottom of the description with 'item in ___ order/shape when shipped. not responsible for damage in transit'. I've had a few people try to scam me on shit ive sent that was -perfect-, and packaged like it was a pack of eggs.

some money is made in the shipping but you still gotta make money on the items or its not worth it...for smaller priced items , qty is key...moving a small amt isnt worth the time because the large money wont be made....turbo lister is a must and saves sooo much time....time is money and the program is free to use...you can download it on ebay, once you spend a little time on it, its easy to use...
what exactly are you trying to sell? are you trying to do this part time or as a full time fill in job for your current job?

one thing u gotta learn which is key is how high to go with the shipping...if u sell an item thats 10.00 and charge 200.00 shipping which alot of people do because they try to save on fees, its a proven fact you wont sell as many items as the guy selling the same item for 165.00 and charging 50.00 shipping...most ebay users dont want to feel like they are getting ripped and if they see that huuge shipping they feel they are getting ripped off...whats funny though is all that matters is the bottom line and it comes out the same...its just how they see it....you will see for yourself, many of the customers on ebay are idiots and are very unresonalbe and expect there shit overnight...its crazy...

i am sure some people on ebay lose money but let me tell you this, if you know what your doing and know what to sell, you have an opportunity to make more money then in 2 months then most make in a year...its that good if you know what you are doing...I am only 22 but have owned 3 houses, a # of cars and put away alot of money into investments and i have a quite a few toys including an escalde and a chopper...the money is there...chris on this board does ebay as well and does very good at it too...he can back up my statments about the money to be made...

No clue what to sell, just looking at the whole 'concept'. As far as full or part-time...part-time definetly. Of course, I 'm allowed to surf the web from work (obviously...I post all day long ;))

honestly, yard saleing once a weekend usually made us (me and a friend) ~$60 a week. it was extra cash and was cool seeing the shit people gave away pretty much and seeing what someone would buy someones shit for. haha. BUt you need a product definately, and need to be able to get a hold of the product when you need more.

+1 on not being worth it. I need atleast 150 a week to make it somewhat worth it to me.

its $240 per month extra for an extra 4 days of work. But your right, it wasn't worth it.

I think yard sales may be worth it to someone who's looking for a bit of extra income to pay down debt since its not an official business so it has little hassles and reletively low risk.

On turbo lister, I set the template to be "Buyer pays actual cost" and then put in my zipcode, for the handling fee's i calculate the time spend on listing the item, how much gas its going to take to bring the item to where it has to be shipped from, and a few dollars for misc. stuff like printing the invoice and what not. I run a commision based eBay trading post I started about 6 months ago, and with my commision rates not being that high (at least not as high as other places) then the answer is "yes'' i depend on the shipping expenses (although they are not that high) for at least 30% of my profits... hope this helps
