I apologize if this has been covered but I couldnt find any info yet. What Im trying to find out how much of a benefit would one see if they either completely cut out soda intake or at least cut it in half. Reason I ask is, that I've grown up on soda(coke/pepsi). Water has always been an enemy of mine until recently I started drinking more and more of it because Im back in the gym full-time and taking supplements. I still dont drink enough but Im working on it day by day. What Im trying to figure out is where is that fine line of soda intake with your regualr diet/meals? I know soda is pretty much all sodium and sugar, a no no in a decent balanced diet. But I've cut from eating fat burger or any junk food 3-4 times a day to a very strict chicken/rice diet. So far so good, but with my meals I still drink around 20oz of soda a day. Someone at work was telling me that cutting soda out all together would provide some sort of huge fat loss result. Even back in the days when my metabolism was ungod like I could drink soda in my sleep and not gain a pound. I would blow through a 1/2 liter a day. 2 years later, mcdonalds and pepsi have caught up to me.

What Im trying to do is find something is anything to replace my soda intake. I know water would be key, but realisticaly I dont think I can scale that far down just yet. Im looking to compare drinks to eat with daily meals.

Soda
Apple Juice
Orange Juice
Gator/Power Ade
Sweet/Unsweet tea
Etc..

When I look at that list, I feel apple/orange juice is much better than soda on a daily basis yet all I see still is sugar. Any suggestions/advice would be appreciated.

PS I spelt consumption wrong.. :tard:

It depends on what your goals are. If you're trying to cut, you're definitely better off drinking water. Gatorade wont hurt..but if you are counting calories, count the few that gatorade has.

Fruit juices have a high GI (glycemic index) and should not really included in a cutting diet (carbs..calories).

Gatoraide has almost as much calories as soda, and just as much carbs. Really the only free lunch is water. If you can't stand it (it WILL grow on you), you can get the Crystal Light (Wal Mart has their brand which is very good) and depending on which flavor you get, will be little or no calories.

Each can of soda is 400 calories if I remember correctly, that's ALOT! An average person should take in about 2000 calories a day (alot of factors, but you get the idea). So each can of soda is about 20% of your daily caloric intake. That's a bunch.

If you want to lose weight, man up and cut the soda COMPLETELY. As far as Gatorade, that shit is TERRBILE, it's all sugar, avoid it. Like Dave said, water, or Crystal Light.

8 ounces of Gatorade has 50 cals and 14g carb..(thats an average..it also different if you use powder)

8 ounces of Coke has 162 calories and 41g of carbs

Crystal light is definitely better than both, but Gatorade is NOT the same as Coke.

agreed!

i grew up on soda and i dont like water either, so i know where you're coming from. i usually get that crystal light stuff that fordifieds talking about. its pretty good. i've recently started drinking this arizona blueberry green tea and its pretty good too. if i'm going to drink tea somewhere, i usually order it unsweet so theres no calories and then add splenda or sweet n low or something.
good luck

Over time, water starts to taste good...atleast for me it did...I try to drink atleast a gallon a day .. when I was younger...and rounder...I drank koolade and gatorade...anything with an 'ade on the end.. if you make water the only thing you have access to, it'll grow on you...plus you can drop weight real easy

Even the walmart crystal light is kick ass...it's cheap and tastes like juice...but only has 5 calories per serving and nothing else

I came from the EXACT situation. I could not stand to drink water because it has no flavor... I was drinking 24+++ cans per day (of Mountain Dew) and I just up and quit one day. The cafiene withdraw was complete HELL (shakes, moody, very short temper, and nasty headaches) lasted about 2 weeks, but when it was all said and done... I lost 20 lbs. Now all I drink is water. Ill have a soda maybe once a month and its tastes like pure sugar and syrup.

Thanks for the replies. I thought about trying to cut back to crystal light, then down to water all together. Shot in the dark, what about this new flavored water stuff Propel? All my friends tell me to check it out.

"flavored water" is gross. at least to me. they contain artificial sweetener, which completely ruins the idea IMO. i saw a lemon flavored water by dasani once and thought it would taste like a water with lemon. it actually tasted like really shitty lemonade, and i couldnt finish it.

ive tried, there really is no easy way out.

I think Gatorade runs thru my veins, its all I drink. A big 64 ounce bottle is 400 calories, but if your working out everyday I dont think those empty calories will hurt that much, I need the calories.

I agree now. Just hit the gym then stopped by a friends house. He had a 24 pack of variety flavored Propel. I tired a lemon flavored one and I almost threw up it was soo nasty. Guess its all water...cold turkey style. Day 1.... :-D

I love Propel. Its only 10 cals per serving and a big bottle is 3. The lemon tastes like shit though. Try different flavors.
