Don't major in CJ if your not going to be hardcore about it, I would suggest business mangement then go to the acadamy and go through there.. so if you get tired of it you can switch out of law enforcement and go run some business.

depends on who you know and what experience you have is what comes down to it.
If you want to work Tampa PD or HCSO they are going to be looking at your scores during the acadamy, background experience with law enforcement and other jobs. On the other hand, If you want to work for a police dept. out in the sticks they will look at your degree and what not. HCSO and Tampa PD hire at 21, in other counties they hire at 19 what does that tell you? As far as FBI goes, go ahead and take all of your lawyer classes and such and start building up that work experience.
I would stick to your business degree and get your BA and not just your AA acadamy points. If you want to "fly through" the ranks get your BA and acadamy. Ranks are done with test in Tampa not just soley on job performance.

i mainly just dont want to be a street cop. I think that job sucks and i want to get past that ASAP.
So you think i should stick to my business and just go through the acadamy?
Right now i am Entrepreneurship & Small Business Management but i am in the process of changing it to Civil Engineering/ Planning (land development) but continuing to take a minor in business so that one day i can own my own business.
However..
I've always wanted to be a firefighter

Yes, go with your business degree and go through the acadamy (if you do not plan on making CJ your life), you will probably end up working the streets for a few years no doubt about it but then opportunities will open where you can branch off into different departments in the district like SAC, QUAD, TRT, and all of that other "cool" stuff. Yet, like I am saying get that experience in law enforcement started. How well do you think the street job sucks? Don't get me wrong I don't know what you have been exposed to personally but don't form your opinions on a particular job by what you have read, and heard, it’s nothing like you see in the movies.
Have you ever thought of doing the civilian ride along?
English/Literature... working in real estate... probably continue to do that.

Whatever you people do make sure you get experience before you grad. Its not easy to get a good job with no experience. I even had a hard time getting an intern without experience.

Nice, we've been working in the studio at the school with a full ProTools TDM (and other cool toys) since the start of the semester. I'm going to be recording and mixing some of my own stuff as well as bringing in some of my friend's bands. 24/7 professional studio access for free rules. :-D

+1, i have been looking for a job now for 3 months and i had a government internship but entry level jobs in my field want more experience then that, most prefer a masters degree, i applied for an internship with my degree and they told me i didnt have enough experience

if you ever need someone for PR/marketing or talent development/new artist scouting... give me a ringadoo. i'm sure i won't be doing anything too valuable with my life within the next few years.
also, how are you liking iadt? how does it compare to a traditional 4 year college? i was debating doing the recording arts thing here at full sail, but later realized i don't poop money, so that was out.

IADT is great IMO, but I couldn't really compare it to a traditional 4 year college since I've never attended one. I'm learning a lot, and things always stay interesting.
The only things that wear me down are driving through traffic 4 days a week after work for class. If my family was rich and could afford to send me to school, pay my rent, and some bills, I'd be taking classes in the afternoons, 5 days a week and working a PT night job.

i'm really just struggling to figure out what the hell i can study that will hold my interest and keep me motivated to finish school... business damn sure didn't do it... so i'm thinking "hey, i like music a whole lot... why not work in music?"

music has always been a part of me, its just fun to be learning everything involved. From the music business perspective to music theory and recording in a studio and doing live recordings. I love it all, just gotta keep putting up with the hassle of being short on $$ and continue putting the work in to know it all. It's fun messing with all the equipment, making new tunes and writing my own stuff though.
When I first got out of highschool I was applying for Art schools to become a graphic artist, but instead I stopped working on that and started working full time. Making money seemed like a better choice than going back to class again. Worked out well since it allowed me to get into music and car stuff more in my spare time. Fast foward a few years to early 2004; After failing to keep my last band together, I started getting more interested in becoming an independent musician and session ace. Kinda just stemmed from there as far as me going into IADT's Recording Arts program.

Political Science major. I was originally planning on going to law school but now I have no clue. Some shitty office job, I guess. I'd love to do something with cars but from what I've seen mechanics never do anything fun, performance shop guys never make much money and everybody who works on cars for a living gets sick of it.
