A couple buddies wanted some pics taken today, weve been trying to get pics for along time now, but he and I have both been busy, finally had some time today but the weather wanted to be gay but we snapped some anyways. Here are the crappy results.

Not bad.
Looks like the wrong time of day to shoot those colors or like you said, just crappy weather....black and white are a sum bitch to shoot. Did you have a CP and a tripod?

I'm diggin this picture the most.

The Cons:
As others have pointed out I think the time and location were off, particularly in terms of the white hatch. The black Honda is also obscured and lacks sharpness. Dunno whats going on there, but some of this can be attributed to the vanilla background. You would need to use something more dynamic, either get real dirty or get real clean and I think you would have better results. Otherwise, it just looks like the loading dock of any company. What settings were you shooting with ans what lense?
The Pros:
I do like the use of different angles in these pictures and I am digging the composition of the interior shots. One of the shots of the red CRX is also working for me.
Pics I like.

Oh, I totally agree. The time and location were way off. It was sprinkling the entire shoot and the weather wasnt cooperating at all. As for the location, I drove around for a good 30-45 mins scouting but couldnt find anything that good. Then I met up with these guys and had 4 cars following me and I knew some of them were getting bored of driving so I just decided to stop at this spot. No biggie though, these are just for fun, if it were really upto me, we wouldnt have even shot that day.
I shot almost all of them in AV mode anywhere from f/2.8 to f/8 with my Tamron 28-75 f/2.8. I dont have a CP but I certainly need to invest in one. All of these were shot handheld

Well in light of the elements working against you, I would say that the results were very good indeed.

limb, and disagree with previous comments. I think that was an ideal time of day/lighting situation for the cars. Especially the white one. When it is sunny outside, it is tough to photograph a white car without blowing highlights. However, in overcast weather, the sun is like a giant softbox. This means no harsh shadows or highlights; ideal shooting conditions. I think all you need is some practice in photoshop to really bring out the photos. One tip I do have is dont shoot the backs of those civics. They look fine from the front, but they are bulbous and unattractive from the back. I believe Rob commented that it looked like a minivan, and I agree.
Here is your shot:

Ive heard plenty of times shooting on an overcast day for a white subject is ideal, but for some reason I think it lacks color and saturation. Ive shot this car a numerous amount of times in good lighting and the results were alot better.
But you are right with the photoshop comment. Im pretty much a ps newb, I only do minor adjustments like brightness/contrast, and a few other things. I will probably go through all these pics and re-edit them later and see what I can do.
Appreciate the criticism

If there is one thing you learn in photoshop. Learn how to use a quickmask. It is great for editing car photos. It will allow you to separate the car from the background so that you can edit them separately. I used this method for the example I showed you. It allowed me to really punch up the background with contrast as well as desaturate it without blowing out the white car.
The crappy thing about photoshop is- the more you know, the more you know what you can do to a photograph, the longer it takes to edit the photograph. I hate photo editing!
Good luck and nice work,
Mike

Thanks for the tip!
I went and re-edited a few of the pics, let me know what you think. I need to sit at home for an entire day and just play around with ps and see how much I can learn from it.

Girls and cars are the specialty of Mike (Mike.C), Patrick (Xtremesaturn) and myself. Its certainly a whole other ball game orchestrating a shoot with both models, cars and car owners.
