Did you put in your application for the courses already? If not go ahead and do it with what you already have. I know for the police acadamy over at Ybor it takes a while for it to be processed because everybody elses also has the interest. You can't expect to be enrolled in the course the following semester if you choose to follow that career route.

I'm a firefighter with my EMT and EMT-I completed in Texas but registered nationally. You must complete CPR certs within the last 6 months, and have all of your immunization records. At least, that's all you need to do the fire/emt program and get registered. Call the registrar at whatever fire college you plan on attending and get the information as to what to put in your application packet.

If you go to HCC you don't have to have a CPR card. they make you pay for the course(1 credit hour) whether you have it or not. If you alreayd have a AHA CPR card you still have to pay just don't have to attend the class.

It can;t just be "any" CPR card it has to be CPR for medical provider or something like that. I am finishing my paramedic with HCC this semester. Get your apps in and do good.

You can't do your paramedic 1st, that doesn't make sense. You learn lots of shit about starting IVs and such in your EMT-I classes, and you MUST be an EMT-B before you can EVER do that. It doesn't matter if you're a physician, you must STILL take the right steps...

EMT-B, I, Paramedic (which there are 2 levels of). If someone told you that you can simply go get your firefighter done and get your paramedic done without having an EMT cert, they were smoking crack. EVERY fire school requires you to either already be an EMT, or take the EMT course while you are there for the simple fact that you MUST know airway management, eqpt recognition, and have experience in both a trauma facility, and on a transport apparatus.

Just saw this post.

As of the Jan of 2006 Fire Schools wont be teaching First Responder but Weapons of Mass Destruction instead. So you may want to get EMT out of the way first, besides its only one semester. Then take care of Fire School.

I would also recommend becoming a volunteer firefighter. I am a volunteer in Pasco and when I go career I will be put at the top of the application list above everyone except Medics. Plus you can learn the ropes and make contacts.

If you are interested I can get you an application for Pasco County Fire Rescue but you will have to have at least FFI and First Responder as of 1/1/06 to ride the engine.
