Anybody know what they take into consideration for financial aid. I applied a yr ago and was denied, people told me because my parents make too much money...so my master plan is after my mom quites her job ill re-apply! Any input?

if memory serves me right, they look at the last year's tax returns.

Yeah, and the consider you 'under your parents income' until you are like 25 ... I'll be 25 in Dec and have lived on my own since 18 and haven't been able to get crap yet .. if you are a full time student you should qualify for the FRAG

i thought if you lived on your own after the age of 18, you do not include your parents on the application.

As long as your parents are not claiming you as a deduction/child on their taxes and you file on your own, you can apply w/o including your parents income.

You don't, but they still consider you 'under your parent's care' under 25 years old .. it's one of the questions on the FAFSA ... something like "were you born before...."

yeah... they go by the prior year's tax return. if you're parents make money, you are pretty much out of luck. I have been living on my own since i was 18 and my parents have not given me a dime to help me out, we do not include each other on our taxes and i still have to file with them for my financial aid.
Once you turn 24, you can start filling independently, unless you are in the millitary, or have a dependent.

yea if you're military theyll consider you on yer own even if your livin w/ parents immediately upon 18. Otherwise its 23 or 24 or so :\. Can always try banks though if you have credit; wont be near as good a deal though

My sister has been out of the house and getting financial aid by NOT putting our parents on her application. Shes been doin it since after high school and shes 22

On teh FAFSA you HAVE to include at least one parent. My parents are separated so I only put the one I have been living with down. If you don't put one down they won't process it. I tried since they don't pay for anything.

And if your mom quit her job now and you apply next year, whatever she made the year of 2005 will go for next Fall 2006, Spring and Summer 2007. So if she made over $40k (or somewhere around there) you won't get anything for another full year.
