Now that I'm living out in New Tampa with Mike I've yet to figure out where the good sushi places are or I guess I should say that I don't really know anyone in the area that likes sushi so I've never discovered them. Mike doesn't like sushi at all so i don't eat it too much anymore....

I've been to the one on Amberly drive a few times and I'm not terribly impressed with the place. I'd like to find something on BBD b/t the cross creek and bearss area or that general vicinity. It's nice to pick up some really good sushi one of those late nights you're craving it or something on the way home from work ...

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Where on 60 ? I've eaten at almost every damn sushi place in brandon ...

Wait is that the one in the home depot/dmv plaza ? If so I ate there the other day on my lunch break and it was reaaaaaaaaaally good ...

I just wanted to find some place close to home so i don't have to drive that far (wasting gas & time) just to pick something up for myself ... ya know ?

+1 I USED to go to Sushi Tsu near peabodies but their service got worse everytime i went. I walked out when it took 45 minutes to get a wrong appetizer. That was the last time I went there.

I go to Bonsai with my g/f all the time. Small place but good food. Also there is a place near Ichiban that is right neat the 4 way stop going to University mall frmo BBD. It is the strip mall behind and across the street from the Kash and karry. I think there is like a soccer store there. VERY good place also. Can;t remmeber the name at all.

Bonsai was horrible and overpriced when I went.

Sushi Haru is a quaint restaurant in Northdale Court on the corner of Northdale Blvd. and N. Dale Mabry. (North of Bearss.) Not too far of a drive and worth it. Great prices as well and always fresh.

Thank you guys for the suggestions. We'll be living right there off Amberly/BBD so either Ichiban or Bonsai would be super easy for me.

Is Bonsai in the same plaza as Beefs & Remingtons ?

Guado - I know exactly where that other place is that you're talking about where the Kash N Karry is. We ate at Tijuana Flats the other day and I saw it, and of course Mike didn't want to eat there. I also saw I think a Thai place back in there.

Again thanks for the suggestions, especially since I know you are all frequent sushi eaters :D

I have seen that place. However I refuse to try a new sushi place until I have a confirmed outing of someone going, enjoying, and not getting sick. :)

Also what did you order at Bonsai Regina?

I eat at Sushi Haru all the time and it's always been delicious. Plus they are straight up Japanese and not trendy crap. I personally like that atmosphere with traditional Japanese music, etc. I think I got something simple like Spicy Tuna roll from Bonsai.

I will have to try Sushi Haru as it's about a 1/4 mile from my house. I've always liked Saketini's in Ybor (if it's still there...haven't been in forever).

I went to Kabuki the other night. OMG so good! I was very impressed with the HUGE selection of sushi they had, they also had color pictures of *everything* which i find very helpful. Everyone was so nice and the sushi tasted great...

Good recommendation!

awesome! those people are so nice :) its half the reason why i go there. the sushi chefs are hilarious and the waitresses are sweet. im glad you enjoyed it :D if you go again this is what i reccomend ordering. as an appetizer get the "yummy crispy" its a sushi spread on a fried wonton wrapper, the lobster roll (its 8.95 but its soooooooooooooo good), the bagel roll (tuna and cream cheese), and the energy roll (eel and cucumber), the spicy tuna hand roll (they look like icecream cones and filled with tuna and rice) and the spicy crunchy tuna. i know its alot of food but its all sooo yummy :P

Thats Tokai. They are a little expensive for the portion, but have been solid for many many years.

Matoi is the best. The owners name is Song. Superb sushi, spicy octopus and spicy tuna rolls are to die for there. Highly recommended.

I've heard many good things about samurai blue in ybor but have yet to go. My sources are sushi connoisseurs though, so Im looking forward to trying them out.

And kiku on clearwater beach was really good..i know its not in tampa but close enough :) http://www.clearwaterbeachkiku.com/

hello all. at the risk of sounding like a "sushi snob", if you will... i have eaten sushi at most of the places that have been mentioned. some are mediocre in my opinion, and some are very enjoyable. I will not mention any negative things about any one place in particular. Haru specifically, to me, is a nice place to go and the sushi is of good quality. i would like to introduce everyone to a resteraunt you may not have encountered yet... the name is Kaisen Sushi.. meaning "fresh from ocean". I would like to say a few things about this place... The prices are generally lower than many other resteraunts. Anyone is made to feel welcome at anytime. The chefs pay specific attention to every person. The menu is very diverse, form all the basic rolls (cali., spicey tuna, mexican, etc..) to a wide range of fresh, unique items that are specifically available at this resteraunt.. traditional japanese seasonal dishes, fish that other resteraunts do not serve such as.. kisu, halibut, kanpachi, shimae salmon, swordfish, albacore, zuke, bonito, whiting, etc, etc.. I could go on and on... The atmosphere is very unique, you will not hear traditional music, instead you may get a healthy dose of janis joplin, hendrix, the doors, many local blues acts, ray charles, los lonely boys, KC and the sunshine band, SRV, tony benet, cheryl crow, and so on. I cant say enough about this place. It's a good place to take a date, go out with friends or just stop by after work to relax. here is a link to the website.. http://www.kaisensushitampa.com/index.html

wow not too far from us, will definitely check it out.

I have to say that's what keeps me trying new places b/c most of the places you go they always have the same types of sushi. I don't like the boring just fish and rice. I like them to mix it up with different types of fish/seafood with different sauces etc etc

Having a nice variety is what attracts me and i have a few choice places i've found for this.

this places sounds/looks cool, thanks for the info :D

I have been to this Kaisen Sushi place and was NOT impressed with it. It as overpriced and the service was lackluster, the food was bland as well. I have been to most sushi places in the bay area and just bc some may have a "reputable" following, does not mean that the sushi is top grade in taste. I think the members in here have done a pretty good job at compiling a good review of the restaurants in the area without a half way/sneaky attempt to ADVERTISE! If anything that's looked down upon. But I'm sure you did not think you'd get called out on it.

Have a great day :)
