it's hard to nut swing when i've been a die-hard fan since i was a kid. if the first game is any indication, it'll be won by a fieldgoal or less. i'm not terribly thrilled about a first time playoff QB against a seasoned playoff veteran in brunell. however, looking on some of simms' games this year, he just might have the coolness to not let it affect him. and with brooks, barber, alstott and pittman, they should be able to keep their cool.
like i said, it'll be won by a fieldgoal. anyone know that line yet? i'd put it at bucs -3. give them the homefield advantage in an even game.

The nutswing was in jest to get it started, but I agree and I am thinking the Skins will win 20 - 17! Possibly in OT

Pfft. I watched every single bullshit game last year and suffered the two last loosing seasons. Don't give me that fairweather fan crap. There are alot of true Bucs fans out there.
The Bucs in my opinion are one of the most dangerous NFC playoff teams and I truely think they will make it at least the NFC Championship. The Bucs are always flying under the radar. Everyone always underestimates them.

With any indication how they played against the saints, they'll lose to the Skins.
With any indication how they played against the saints, they'll lose to the Skins.
um, we beat them soundly both times? There was no "lucky calls" or anything like that. Just a solid victory on both sides of the ball. You can see how the offense progressed from the first time we played them til now.
*sigh* been a fan since they drafted my high school classmate, you might of heard of a guy named Ronde Barber. He was drafted by the Bucs the same year I moved down here from VA. I became an instant fan. I was and still am a Bronco's fan before that.
I predict this is going to be a really good slug fest, a real dog fight, just like last time. Either team could win it, but I believe the Bucs defense steps up and takes the game away from the Skins late in the 3rd quarter. Skins secondary is a bit roughed up, so I'm calling a 31-21 victory.
Alan, you still coming over this week for the game?

What the hell are you talking about? We soundly defeated the Saints. 27-13, remember? They had 3 turnovers, we had none.
You're just talking shit now. So many critics of the Bucs.......

I really do think the Bucs win more solidly this time over the Redskins and I'll go ahead and list some reasons why.
-Everyone is talking about how the Redskins will shut down the run and that will be the difference maker. Well I have news for everyone. The Redskins shut down the run with an UNHEALTHY Cadillac Williams last time, but Chris Simms still completed 15 of 29 passes for 279 yds, 3 TDs and 0 INTs and he did rally back from behind to win the game. Cadillac Williams is coming into this game healthy now and running harder than ever.
-Bucs have homefield advantage again.
-Bucs defense is now #1 in the NFL over the Bears and have been playing better than ever over the stretch of the last few games.
-The Redskins have more injuries to worry about.
-Redskins so called "hot streak" coming into the playoffs came against St Louis, Arizona, Dallas, New York Giants, and Philadelphia who combine for an awesome 37-43 record. All those teams pretty much suck except the Giants.
-The Bucs would also be on a 5 game winning streak had it not been for the loss to the Pats who I still think are the top candidate this year for a Super Bowl win.
The Bucs are the better team this year and if both teams bring their "A" game, the Bucs win.

Would be and are on the current streak are 2 different things, not only did the Bucs lose they got F'n wrecked. It wasnt even a game. I dont see how you can say the Bucs are a better team? Washington has the better QB, RB O-Line. The defense are pretty even with the exception of the DB's, but the Skins are getting C Rogers back and Springs is still unknown. WR's are pretty even. So how are the Bucs so much better?

The difference will be that Brunell will be running for his life most of the game and might even get hurt somehow. The Bucs will play smart and steady physical football, while putting an exlamation point in after ever play (chalk that up to the 12th man here at home).
Redskin special team may sneak in a win for them, I will be holding my breathe throughout the game. If they don't manage something special in that department, they will be beat into the ground little by little despite their best efforts at RJS. :-o
If you are a Washington fan you better pray the Bucs don't score 1st or your team will be leaned on until they are forced to make that deadly mistake! :D

Let's see Bucs are 11-5, Skins are 10-6. I'm not sure how you figure the defense is even when the Bucs are ranked #1 defensively and the Skins #10. Bucs have a +7 turnover margin compared to the Skins +1. Brunell may be a veteran with more experience, but I honestly don't think he's much better than Simms. Caddy is better than Portis IMO. Skins O-line is the one major edge over the Bucs.
BTW, you missed the whole point about the winning streak. My point is the Bucs would be on a 5 game winning streak also if they had played a bunch of shitty teams like the Redskins did. If the Redskins played the Pats in Foxboro that week I guarantee you they would've gotten wrecked too. Not to mention it was the end of a 3 game road trip for the Bucs.

Portis is the 4th leading rusher in the league, Cadi is 13th 11 td's vs 6 how is he better. Portis even averaged more yards per carry. Carnell is a good back and will be great in the future, but RIGHT Portis is def better. As far as Simms and Brunell if I had the choice I choose Simms to build on because he is young/talented, but RIGHT now I go with the veteran Brunell as being better.
The defenses are pretty even, Washington gives up an average of 1.2 points more than the Bucs and 20 yards a game. Thats not going to be much of a factor. They both have great defenses and it will be about which offense is better and I think thats when experience plays a big roll. As far as turnover that is misleading because the Skins only had 2 takeaways to 10 giveaways in the 1st 5 games and in the last 5 its been 6 giveaways and 17 takeaways.
The difference will be that Brunell will be running for his life most of the game and might even get hurt somehow. The Bucs will play smart and steady physical football, while putting an exlamation point in after ever play (chalk that up to the 12th man here at home).
Ok and you dont think Sims will be RUNNING FOR HIS LIFE with the possibilty to get hurt?

Portis did finish higher in stats, but Caddy was out for a couple of games and playing injured in a few games. Portis played the whole year, not too mention has a better offensive line to work with. Put Portis behind the Bucs O-line and sadly I think his numbers drop significantly. Caddy easily would have finished in the top 5 for rushing yards had it not been for injuries.

Ok so one game I see he had four carries. Right after that he was back to 21 carries. http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/302215/gamelogs/2005
Caddy was out completely for 2 games and banged up in 4.

You people crack me up. "if he played this many games, he would have definitely been in this situation" blah blah blah. People talk shit about what stats could've been this, what could've been that. Cadillac has had one good year. That's all. Portis has established himself in this league as a premier back. Cadillac has also proven that he can not stay healthy thus far in his career.

So what plans does everyone have for the big game? I love grilling and having a cold beer with a few friends and watching on a big screen. Go Bucs!!
Ok, I'll break it down in my opinion.
Running Backs - Portis is the better back, period. It certainly helps they have a pretty solid O line. 3 years from now? We can talk about that then. Don't forget the last time we saw him, he ran all over us for 150 yards. However, what you have in Portis, we have even better IMHO with Family Man, Caddy, and A Train. Probably the most underrated backfield in the NFL. You didnt see a healthy Caddy at the first match up. Too close to call
Simms vs Brunell - toss up really. Brunell might have experience, where Simms is healthier and a bit quicker. Both have few weaknesses, can throw the deep ball, and are efficient passers. Wash.
Recievers - Skins have Santana Moss, we have Galloway. One went to the pro bowl, the other should have. Biggest snub. Ike Hilliard has filled in nicely for Clayton. Alex Smith is very strong. Pittman is sometimes used in the slot and also dangerous. Skins have a rising star in Cris Cooley at TE. I give the advantage here to the Skins.
O Line - Give it to the Skins. Its not that theirs is fantastic, or ours sucks, theirs is just better.
D Line - Bucs, superior pass rush, an edge on the run.
Secondary - Bucs. We are healthier, and just overall better, with a lot of depth. We've been playing musical chairs at the safety position this year due to injury, has anyone really been concerned about it? Not me, not when you have back up Will Allen with 3 picks and a fumble recovery. Derrick Brooks and Shelton Quarles... need I say more? #1 ranked defense for a reason.
Kickers - Matt Bryant has hit some huge field goals, and missed a few that stung as well. However, he's had a huge load to carry all season and done well when the snaps are on point. John Hall is solid, 12/14 for the season. When the games on the line, I want Bryant. Bucs
Special teams - Could be deciding factor. I'll give the Skins the edge here, even though Trash stepped out of bounds, he did have a huge TD on a kick off return against us. However, Mark Jones has had some very good returns on punts for us.
Coach - You got two of the best right here, old school (Gibbs) vs New (Gruden). Defensive coordinator breaks the tie, and you have to give that edge to Kiffin, who's one of the very best. Bucs
Momentum and motivation - Bucs have fought hard all season and constantly been doubted. Faced with the adversity of a very tough schedule, loss of starting QB Griese, they've fought some long, tough battles, winners of 5 of last 7. Skins, got off to a rough start, lost in our house on a controversial call. Winners of 5 straight against a mediocre schedule down the stretch. Definately hungry to avenge the earlier season loss against the Bucs. Advantage Skins.
Overall .... Skins by a nose. Give some credit for home field advantage for the Bucs though.

John I can understand your point of view on most of those areas (although I personally may not agree with them). But I definately do not agree with the D-Line. There is no toss up here. The Bucs definately have the best pass rush D-Line, but they have also been better against the run than the Skins with the addition of Chris Hovan. There is only one other defensive line in the NFL I would compare to the Bucs and that is the Bears.
you might be right, I may have given the Skins more credit than they deserve. We have been excellent against the run this year. After doing some more searching, we are superior on D Line. I shall change my advantage there...

OK so you list 2 receivers for the Skins and 4 for the Bucs but you still give them the advantage??? :?
B/c I dont know the Skins recievers all that well #1, I did forget about James Trash, and Clinton Portis is a huge threat out of the backfield, more so than Caddy or Pittman. On the tie breaker, I fould Cooley to be a better TE than Alex Smith.

Actually Pittman is a bigger receiving threat out of the backfield than Portis.
2005 Receiving Stats
Micheal Pittman: 36 receptions for 300 yds (8.3 avg) and 1 TD
Clinton Portis: 30 receptions for 216 yds (7.2 avg) and 0 TD
John you really should start checking into your stats better. Especially since you're giving our opponent the edge when they really don't have it. ;)
i still find their recievers as a whole to be a greater threat than ours.
I'm no stat boy, but all I need to do is look at team statistics
TB Rushing TD's - 13 --Washington - 15
TB Recieving TD's - 17 -- Washington - 25
Thats a huge disparity. They also own us in yardage and YPC.
I'm not downing the Bucs, I really like our chances. But I'm also not a homer either, I'm a realist.
