Alright. I need some advise on what to get and where. When I'm doing my initial searching myself, it looks like Im gonna be shelling out a ton of money. Let me go ahead and explain what Im using it for and maybe everyone can point me in the right direction.

I am starting a new sales job. It is construction design/sales of outdoor living areas. (decks, screen rooms, outdoor kitchens) Anyways, I am going to be using ADT for design and presentation. Most people would go to their desktop draw it up and print some stuff to show the homeowner. I want to be able to bring my notebook with me and draw a 3d presentaion for them right there...I think it would give me a HUGE edge.

ADT (acad) is a very demanding program. Here is the minimum requirements for adt

Processor: Pentium® 4 1.4 GHz or AMD K7™ 1.4 Ghz (minimum)or Pentium® 4 3.4 GHz (recommended)

RAM: 1 GB (minimum), or 2 GB (recommended)

Video: 1024 x 768 with True Color (minimum)

Hard Drive: 650 MB free hard disk space and 75 MB swap space, or 1.3 GB for full installation

I want to be on the "recommended" side because I am a power user and I hate when i get slowed down due to hardware. Obviously if i get something to run ADT good then I will be fine for ANY thing else.

Can anyone provide me some good links or models I need to look at? Thanks for any advise.

Dell XPS or Alienware laptop.

I hope the "edge" you'll get is worth $2000-4000

Thats the prices I was seeing too... My new job is commision so if i sell about 4 jobs strictly due to the "wow, thats awsome. where do i sign" factor it will pay for its self.

Dell XPS
That's what I was going to suggest as well. I was putting together a system when my connection dropped and lost it and didn't feel like starting over.

Check out Gateway's machines. I'm not sure if they have anything that high end (when I was pricing, it was for a basic machine to tune a car with). I was quite leery of Gateway laptops, especially hearing they bought out E-Machines, but appearantly the Gateway laptops are very well built for the money. They make quite a small unit too.

the turion 64 is a faster CPU....you could get the upgraded RAM etc...the total cost for that baic setup in 1299...your call. If your looking at the 3k mark to spend I would go alienware instead of Dell. I def agree thats a bad ass machine you got hooked up. I would upgrade the HD to atleast 100gig that extra 40 is 10 movies you can store for trips
