I don't play as much as him, and when I do, it's no fun running around with someone 10 levels lower than you. So it's usually just him and his boss, while I run around a die alot.
Doesn't really matter any more, I'm going to have to cancel my thing on there....
I thought for sure this thread was going to say ..."you're all fags! get a real life!". Oh well, wishful thinking.

you enjoy that waiting in line and warner brothers graphics stuff ya got goin on.. lol..
WoW is popular because its the MMO for people who like Xbox games, its cartoonish, its "cute" .. its boringly simple... its not overly time consuming and all of these are either good or bad qualities depending on your perspective..
it works for alot of people..

yup.. didnt like it.. cartoonish and too simple.. i like the graphics in EQ2... had a lvl 16 paladin .. was bleh.. hated the login waits aswell.. the "kiddy" factor annoyed me too.
i'm in a small guild, familly oriented.. alot of husband and wife teams .. we have over 300 guilded characters.. but only 90 accounts... a number of the more hardcore raid guilds only have 48 people max.. you need 24 for a raid.. they have 2 raids going everynight hitting 1-5 zones.

I loved WOW until around level 25.. I even had 60's paying my entire way through WoW-life.
I just cant take the level treadmill crap. I wanted to go fight people. Every MMORPG should have one uberPVP server that throws you into the game at the max level. Then you kill shit for items, or just run around killing everyone, ala Siege Perilous UO.
(i know this is off topic, but a wow vs eq2 debate came up. i quit both.)

I got a few friends at work that got me into the game. they also invited me into our 300 member guild. This is the first MMO ive ever played. I have to say I think the graphics are cool Zate. My character looks pretty bad ass too(lvl40 druid).
is it simple? I have nothing to compare it to. Its something totally different then any game I've played before, and I've been playing games almost my whole life.
About 3 months into playing now, and Im at lvl40. I find myself extremely bored with grinding, and repetition. I dont think I will be turning into a wow zealot. I do enjoy playing the game though. Not to sound like an asshole but Im pretty damn good at playing my char and I've come to LOVE pvping.
I'd be more inclined to try the game your playing, but I dont want to stop playing wow yet, and I dont want another game that comes with a monthly bill. Is there a free trial?

there is a free trial.. www.trialoftheisle.com i think it is.. anyhow. if you enjoy WoW.. and find it fun.. then stick with it.. Eq2 is a bit more technical and more of a challenge.. Wow is simpler.. a bit mor e"arcade" type deal.. and requires a little less time to have fun..
that being said they just revamped the lvl 1-20 stuff in EQ2 and its SO much fun.. you start as your final class now.. instead of playing 1-10 as a generic class (fighter, priest, mage, scout) and then 10-20 as a subclass and then getting your final class at 20 ..
they redid the newbie island, and all the newbie town zones.. tons and tons of new items and quests.

Ok Im going to step in. I wouldnt find wow "too easy". To even to get to sixty it requires time and effort. Ever made a 60 and stuck with it?. Don't think you did. it may take a little time to reach mid 30-40. After that is really the hard part, because you have to start joining grps, running instances and actually get the equipment to move on and progress. I played eq2 and actually have the game sitting here. I made a humand rogue i believe thats what there called? Ones with Heroics strikes and there small combos?
Then once you hit sixty, this is were it gets REALLY fun. You start to run the big instances, like UBRS, LBRS, Scholomance and Strathlome. Once you completed those and pretty much maxed your profressions out. You find yourself a raiding guild and do the much biggerones, MC, BWL, AQ and ZG. Now to even get those done, you need atleast a 40 man raid grp except for ZG which is a 20. Now lets see you get 40 people on game, actually listen and perform to even completed these high end instances. Have you even seen how these instances are and how complex the encounters are? try takeing 40 peoplle ony? Not a easy task. Now lets say you hit sixty, you ran all the highend instances you pretty much got all your t1 and t2 weapons and armor.
What do you do next? Go to battlegrounds. Yep, this place is where it gets real intense and fun, Gather up 15 guildies and run AB, or take 20 with you contact another guild and do AV or if you into smaller type pvp and love capture the flag go to WSG. While you pvp, you get Ranks. The more you rank the beter the rewards. There are 14 diferent ranks, first one being Private then to the last one which is Grand Marshal. Might think this task is pretty simple? try makeing a character to GM, come back to me and tell me how "Simple" it was. Not to mention you Gain rep with certain inner factions.
Once you hit your highest rep status with that certain faction (nuetral, Friendly, Honored, Reverd and Exalted) You get rewards with them. The rewards are pretty nice also. Also to add to the Battleground part, when you reach your highest rep witht hem you get new tabards, rings, armor and weapons. I have only mention maybe 40% of what you can do in this game. There is soo much you can do in that game is nuts.
I mean I havent played EQ2 all the way through and im sure your haveing a blast just as much as i am with WoW. The thing about wow is, Its only been out little over 1 year, and EQ have been out ever since the late 99 into 2000 and has several Exp. Packs. What blizzard has done with this game, and only been out for one year? is pretty damn good. Yet there might be server issues and lag, but what game doesnt have those when they first come out? I mean cmon EQ had it Ultima Online had it, DAOC had it pretty much all the major MMO's. Graphic wise? I would say EQ2 and wow are pretty mcuh same level both require soemwhat of a good system to run to see its full effects.
Blizzard is soon to have its First exp pack which comes with 2 new 20/40 man raid, 2 new races, Up the level cap, More battle grounds, More rewards for new factions and old, Even harder content for the 10 mand and 15 man grps, New abilities and skills, new way of traveling (FLYING MOUNTS) New outdoor raid bosses, list just goes on and on. Check it out here for the Full list of things due to come with the exp pack. http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/burningcrusade/
WoW for the most part isn't "Simple" or "arcadish". Do the stuff I did and been through what i have, you will see its alot more complex then what you think it is.

Actually EQ2 has only been out since Nov 04 .. your thinking of EQ1, they are diff games. EQ2 has all the things you mention about gearing up, raiding etc etc.. they are pretty similar. EQ2 just require to me, a bit more thought and skill to get things done. You need to group alot earlier, and with the recent changes to the lower level dungeons and loot tables, its alot more fun at lower levels.
WoW is more for the masses, more for the people who wouldnt usually play a MMO in my opinion.

Hmm, maybe your video card is lacking Zate, but those graphics look horrible. :(
There weren't even any shadows, the redering looked like something off of a Nintendo 64, seriously dude - is that how the game is supposed to look? Even the icons, and the scroll bars look out of place. They don't match up with their windows.

you did view the full image size right? looks fine to me.
you did view the full image size right? looks fine to me.
So that's how it's supposed to look? I even took a peek at some other online screen shots, they do look similar to Zate's shots... which is very sub-par compared to WoW. There appears to be no use of shading, or lighting effects, it's all just lit up with a mysterious light source that illuminates everything. Are there any dark areas in EQ2? Did anyone else notice that in the screenshots from EQ2 that the people do not appear to actually be standing on the ground? Their positioning appears to be wrong. It brings back memories of the JFK - Lee Harvy Oswald photo.
By the looks of it (and Im no expert here) eq2 payed more attention to the detail of it's characters, and the world around them, but didn't do well with the integration of the two.
WoW appears to have paid less attention to the detail of the above, and actually put more time into integrating the less detailed objects to feel more like you're on/in/around the area you are. The shading in WoW also appears to be closer to what a real shadow, with a real light source would look like. The shadows on people with wow are very simplistic but at least they put them in there.

My screenshots of wow came from the game. Max res. Max everything.
setup
2 7800's MSI 256 meg
2 gig ram
amd 64 x2 4800
the game caps the FPS at 64. =-/
my screen shots were at the ballanced level with shadows turns off, there are 2 detail levels above mine, and a whole bunch of junk i have disabled. I'll do a couple later with it up a notch or 2.
3700+, 1gm ram (usually 2) and a 7800GTX.
btw here it is at "max everything" like RFGuys shot were.
I actually thought your shots were with textures turned down... similar to the "performance" setting in EQ2.. sad to think thats as good as it gets.

still looks the same to me.. just added some shadows? i guess?
Well again - the textures look good on EQ2 more so then WoW. But again the integration with foreground and background just dont add up. The visual effects just arent there. While I do agree WoW is lacking in the graphics department. Comming from Coleco Vision, Atari, NES, SNES - It doesn't take much getting used to. The quality is there the integration is there, so it makes for a more enriching expierence when in game. I have never played EQ2 - so there's not much to compare to - asside from the screen shots.
It does seem that your bashing WoW without really having played the game. It's doesn't seem to be a fair comparison.
All in all, I think graphics wise, EQ2 has wow beat. Except on person creation - I don't like how they look, and they do not integrate at ALL with their environment. However, graphics aren't everything. Once I reach lvl 60 on my warrior, maybe I'll try eq2 for a while and make my own comparison of the two.
I'll try and list some better screen shots....

I agree the textures in EQ look better, but the characters garb and surroundings themselves seem a little bland. WoW, with its sub par graphics still presents a rich feel, and a engrossing world. I think it looks very good personally.

my buddy's graphics settings are turned down. They look like shit compared to your screenshots Jeff. I'd post some of my personal ones but im at work :(
still looks like the disney channel to me... swords that look like nerf bats.. armor that looks like something a color blind tina turner outfit ..
heres a couple on the next graphics level up from ballanced.. still 2 from the top but with the shadows and lighting left on.. i took off the torch i was wearing as it makes stuff too bright for screen shots..
I think we like different things I guess.. i dont like the crayola effect of WoW with all the bright colors.. looks like a mario brothers game..
These in comparison are pretty bland color wise, with this char i am on the Evil side and stuff is noticeably darker and more evil looking... its also a low level char (13 Berzerker) so he has pretty basic equipment.

Both look cartoonish, just one is a detailed cartoon.

Me being a semi dedicated WoW player, and having never played EQ... judging solely on those screen caps, I'd have to say EQ is much better in the graphics dept, it's all and all more realistic looking... but I've grown attached to WoW and refuse to ever switch!!!
I think the colors have a more real feel to them in EQ2, however I don't think it looks more real. And once again, the characters just look weird on EQ2. I would much rather have a cartoon that looks well put together, then the poor digital graphics that are being used with WoW. It reminds me of an older CGI movie. Or a SCI-FI movie with it's poorly integrated CGI. Not bashing the game, just my opinion.

EQ2's colors aren't rich enough. There's not enough going on in the graphics of the game. Yeah, it has great textures, looks more realistic, but it look bland as hell. It looks faded. I like vibrant colors. I loved exploring WOW. I had almost no interest in exploring EQ2 while I had it.

yea it has pretty good gameplay.. but yea at first wow kinda looked bleh to me but after 6 yrs of EQ1 i was ready to try anything and within like 3 weeks of wow goin live after being in 2 phases of its beta i hit lvl 40 on my first char so I definately liked the rate of progression compared to eq1

you'd like the rate of progression in EQ2 then .. its much faster than Eq1 ..
RFGuy..its a combination .. i dont like the graphics.. or the game play.. what I meant is that its EQ2 game play that i love.. not its graphics.. thats just nice to have..

Wax museum as EQ2 definately works
Real life is pretty cool looking, something your average WoW player doesn't see much of. :)

typical assumption.
and one i'd not agree with .. one thing i DO like about Wow is it takes less time to feel like you have accomplished something.. some days in Eq2 I feel like quests take a month to complete.. great satisfaction when you finally get something like your prismatic weapon.. or one of the heritage items.. but man.. doesnt mesh well with someone who has a familly and a job.. sometimes i wish i coud login for an hour and feel like i accomplished something.. and from what I have seen WoW gives a greater sense of accomplish ment over a shorter time.. the quests and stuff are a bit easier time wise.

i play eq2 and yea progression is decent now; it sucked during beta and initial release tho got lvl 19 in like 4 days tho now. I have a char on Permafrost Kerran Templar
level 60 priest, lvl 54 mage, lvl 35 warrior, 32 hunter all on Garona. Wow is a great game and it's better than the other online rpg's that I have played. The thing I don't like about it, is that once your lvl 60 you can no longer play by yourself. Everything consists of groups between 5-40. 40 people is hard to get together when your not in a big guild.

i used to play on garona alot jus started back; alot of my friends are in Magistry used to raid w/ them. I have a 22 rog on there now cuz I'm too lazy to hit 60 w/ my warrior on thunderlord (lvl 58.7 now woo) Used to have a 60 warr on garona but i went thru the i need to quit phase and sold it cuz the right price was offered lol
