i got an old fujifilm 3mp digital camera and i am no longer impressed with the pictures it takes compared to others ive been seeing lately. im not into the whole photography thing much, but i do love technology and love seeing the very imressive pictures you guys take and want to take some of my own. A friend of mine got a Digital Rebel XT and it takes beautiful pictures without editing, but that camera costs more than i want to spend. i was at walmart last night and was browsing through some of thier cameras and saw a canon something that looked similar to the rebel xt, but was only $235.00, but since i dont remember the model number i cant look it up. id also like to learn to edit pictures using photoshop of whatever. nothing too dificult of course. just wanted to know what u guys have for advice. thanks

you probably saw a Film Rebel .. hence the low cost and basic same appearance

That was probably the T2 or or K2.
Honestly, for the price now, you cant beat a Nikon d50. Its dropped to $699

what are the major differences between SLR digital, digital, eos, 35mm?
$699 is still a bit too much. i just want to take nice pics, not open a portfolio or anything like that

Personally, I'd say...even if you have to save for another month or two..spring for the $699. chances are, you'll fall in love with the hobby and wish you had the more expensive camera.
That's what happened to me @ least. I had a regular point & shoot. Then I got the Fuji S7000, then the Digi Rebel. I should have just gotten the Rebel...that way I didn't spend the money on the P&S and the S7000.

$699 is chump change as to what a professional will pay just for a camera body itself. EOS is the series of Canons current SLR lineup, both digital and film are included in this line up.
SLR stands for Single lens reflex. Bascially there is a mirror and a shutter inside SLR cameras. The mirror reflects what you are seeing into the eye piece. When you press the shutter button, the mirror flaps up and the shutter slides open exposing the film media or digital sensor inside to the light.
For $699, you get quite a bit over anything else. They are more expensive point n shoot digitals, but they dont offer the growth that a $700 SLR will.
Im sure if you did some searching on ebay or used camera shops, you could find one even cheaper.

I bought a D50 and love it, excellent shots and great for a beginner.

That's pretty much what happened to me. I ended up paying around $500 for a nice P&S and a memory card and decided it wasnt going to do what I wanted to do after about a month, so I had to sell it and start all over with a SLR. I wish I could have saved that $500 now.
