View Full Version : Hard Drive shorted out...
I have a hard drive that shorted out which included a bunch of my old CD's and songs that I have done in the past 8 years or so plus my backup collection of old DJ CD's (about 200 of them) from back in the day.... basically the board underneath the hard drive touched metal and started smoking...now the computer does not recognize it at all. Would it be possible to swap the board from underneath the hard drive with another one of the exact model and have it work? The board is easy to remove.. but I don't know if it is only compatible with that hard drive disk only?
It is a Samsung 160GB model SP1614N.. if any of you have a bad one laying around or have an extra one you would be willing to let me test it will be really helpful.

It should work. Although I've never done it before.

I tried it before a few times not your same exact scenario but 1 time it worked with a WDC the other times I had to send the HD's to DTI for recovery cost was for $400 for each. Good luck Kirk

Only difference seems to be the 8mb cache on yours instead of the 2mb cache on mine, plus a difference or two in the features.... it MIGHT work.
is yours bad aaron?? or is it one you use alot? let know.... I am curious to see if it works by swapping the boards

Its one I use almost everyday in my Xbox :-(. I dont see how this could fry my circuit board by trying it in yours though. I am sure the drive are VERY identical.
The thing is... if some how mine fucks up and is ruined.... this is a hard drive I use on LIVE, so it something happens, I'd need a new HDD and EEPROM!
what you need is a 360 and to get with the times !
