View Full Version : And that's why they fight the fights

After watching UFC 59 last night, I was left stunned at the outcome of the heavyweight title match. An athletic, technically skilled "kid" from Belarus had his braincase rattled badly enough to be TKO'd by a very tall, flabby opponent he had beaten easily the last time the two met. Andrei Arlovski came in as almost everyone's favorite. His highly touted boxing skills were all the rage on Sherdog and the various internet forums that cover MMA. He even hurt Sylvia very briefly just before being put away, but could not finish the wounded giant off.

It's a testament to Tim Sylvia's will that he won, but it is also an alarming indicator of just how soft the UFC heavyweight division is relative to Pride. Pride's heavyweight champion has demolished better fighters than Tim Sylvia and beat one of the best heavyweights ever twice on his way to a 23-1 record. If Arlovski or Sylvia got in the Pride ring, there's every reason to believe Fedor would very likely make short work of both men. I'm more pissed than ever that we'll be getting the Pride Open Weight GP on delayed PPV now.

And Forrest Griffin did enough to beat the assholiest of all assholes in Tito Ortiz tonight. That decision was a joke...why weren't you pummeling that lead knee with leg kicks Forrest!? Why!?!?

That is all. :)
