okay, so we have a pool and epi and james clean it a couple times a week, epi puts shock in it, he lets the pump run pretty much every day, and we have that thing that goes across the bottom of the pool (kinda like a creepy crawler but not)

anyway, the friggen pool alllllways turns green! what are some basic steps to prevent this from happening? is that creepy crawler type thing broken? do we need to add more stuff to the pool?

help!

Check the chemical balance. Take a little tube of water from your pool to pench a penny or whatever and they'll test it for you and should tell you what needs to be added and done to the water to make it stop.

I would talk to the guys at your local pinch a' penny store.

Probably your best source of info...

You guys do have one of those things that floats around with chroline tablets inside it?

+1, those help a lot. But take a sample to the store and they will tell you exactly what you need, down the the measurements. Infact I did ours yesterday and it needed 4 cups of Muriatic Acid, 1 2.5 gallon jug of chlorine and 1 bag of yellow out. So it all depends. Just take it in, much easier than trying to fight it.

You've got to get the chemical balance correct to keep the algae from popping up. Take a sample of water into a Pinch-A-Penny or Leslies (both in your area) and they will tell you what to add, and how much...they'll also probably give a little lesson on how to keep up with it all.

It's easy to keep the balance once you have it, but it is real easy to let things slip and go down hill.

As far as the yellow algae that's in there now, Yellow Out or Yellow Treat will get rid of it. But, until the chemicals are right it will just come back again.

thanks everyone! poor epi cleans that thing like a mofo and the shit keeps coming back... it's kind of discouraging :nono:

hopefully he'll do the pinch a penny thing and figure it out :)

it might also help if you don't burn random things in it,

it's been MONTHS since that!
i think it'd be cool to have the pool and back yard up to par so we can have a little get together :spin:

can you believe it? we're getting furniture this weekend :whoa:
it's, like, almost a REAL HOME!

Pool allege is hard as hell to keep out of a pool if you don't have it screened in. The trees contribute to it. Also running the filter pump while you have it is bad, it gets in your entire system that way. I would call a pool guy. Have them come out clean the pool and flush it and ask them whats the best thing to do to maintain it. I use to have a pool in my other house that wasn't screened in and I all ways felt like the mad scientist throwing chemicals into it. I would drain it scrub it down re fill it and it stayed clean for about 3 days. UNTIL I had someone who knew WTF they were doing come in and do it for me lol.

go to pinch a penny like everyone said. They give you a free water tester bottle to fill up and they test it free. Normally its only a few $$ to get it back to normal. Does he have cholorine tablets in the chlorinator all the time? Also, if you have alot of trees or pollen around, it can make it off as well.

maybe the creepy crawler is broken.. when we had a pool we had a creepy crawler but it was shit and there was ALWAYS algae so we spent a good amount of money on a "barracuda" and it was AWESOME.

i havent lived in a house with a pool for 5 years now, im sure theres something better than the Barracuda but it worked really well for us.
