When I bought my house I finally embraced my inner redneck and bought some almost antique riding lawn mowers with the aspirations of fixing them up and whatnot. So far, I mowed an entire season with my late 60's early 70's Snapper Comet HV rider (pictured on left) that I picked up for $100 from my old timer neighbor. I picked up another similar model, probably an early 80's model (not pictured), and then an early 90's 30" deck (pictured on right) with a 14hp Kohler motor. The 30" model has an exceptional motor, but needs some rear axle and trans work that I hope to accomplish this summer so that I can mow with it, and restore the antique "Comet". I really fell in love with the mowers because they haven't changed internals and drivetrain much if any in 30+ years. I can buy a brand new OEM part from a dealer for an '07 and it fits my antiques. Makes things a lot easier to work on than say an old Ford 8N tractor. They are cake to work on, and they are made out of major league steel that is about impossible to bend or screw up.
Any other lawn mower tales out there? I would like to get some real deal old school tractor with implement hookups, but I need to graduate from small engine mower repair first...
