so, we have this craftsman 1/2hp chain driven garage door opener that we got installed right after we had our house built, so its only like 3 yrs old and now its giving us problems so i was wondering if anyone had any ideas...

so, both of our remotes stopped working at the same time. it seemed like the battery was dead in the remotes the way it was acting, bc it still kindof worked but not all the time, so i replaced the batteries, still doing the same thing.

so basically, what its doing now.... if the garage door is open, like you're leaving home and you go to close it, it works fine. but then if its closed and you go to open it like when your coming home, it doesnt really work unless you get out of your car and walk right up to the door. on clear nights, it seems to work better for some reason. so its like its not getting a good signal. also, checked the antenna on the unit and nothing blocking it or gunking it up.

well, went to sears, talked to the guy there and he said he wasnt sure what it could be, if just the remotes or the actual unit. so, i dont want to buy new remotes if i'm going to have to end up buying a new unit anyways.

so, i was wondering if anyone as any expertise in this area. sorry so long but i wanted to make sure i got everything in there as detailed as possible. thanks!

umm can you borrow a friends remote and then just put your code on it. Obviously if it works ok then its the remotes..

Not sure what else it could be

hmmmm, i could try that i guess. is it pretty easy to change the codes out? i've never done that before. i just dont know any of my neighbors or anything to ask is the only problem.

I know you said it wasn't a signal problem, but if it works better when the door is up then when the door is down, it would appear as though the signal is so weak that it's having a problem getting through the door to the antenna....I dunno if you checked the antenna to the point of opening up the opener and seeing if it was still connected to the reciever or not?..definitely sounds like a signal problem

actually, i said that i do think it is a signal problem bc of how its acting. maybe i should open it up and see if theres something wrong with the connection.

I think you just hit the reset button up inside the unit in the garage and push the button on the remote. We had to reprogram our remotes while trying to program the G35 homelink system. garage door systems are a pain in the ass!!!!

oh yeh for some reason I thought you said "it's NOT like its not getting a good signal"...I swear I can read:tard:

Anyways yeh I'd open that bitch up and see if the antenna has become disconnected somehow..if it hasn't you may have the reciever hardware going bad, because if multiple remotes aren't working then it's probrably not a dead battery or other remote problem.

even with a signal problem.. try getting one of those aftermarket remotes.. i know my old one that came with it.. you have to be reallllly close to the door for it to work.. this other one i got from radio shack i can be 1/2 way down the street and open it..

is there anyway to extend the anntenna on the opener itself... maybe make the wire longer?
