.......are a motherfuckin bitch to get rid of.

When I started working out about a year ago....I ate real well and did alot of abs...and I lost the most of the fat I ahd in my midsection.

That lasted about 4-5 months. After that, I slacked off on the diet and did no abs for about 6 months. I kept working out though.

I sit all fuckin day at work.

So now, everything else is still decent but I have this fuckin tire that will NOT deflate. I have no fat any where else other than my midesction.

I started doing abs again about 6-8 weeks ago and have noticed ZERO improvement. My diet has improved, it's not great but not terrible either.

Here's what I'm asking:

-I need some specific excersices. I have tried mostly everything, and nothing seems to work so far.

-I hate cardio. I have never done cardio. In order to lose this tire, is it absolutely necessary I start doing some?

This is really fuckin aggrivating me. Like I said, I'm pissed at myself for slipping on this, and now I'm stuck with all this fat. Every other part is in shape except the midsection.

Targeting fat doesn't work, so you can do situps all day and see no results. The best you get out of situps and crunches are a solid core, which can make you look slimmer, but it'll do nothing for love handles. So, you're either gonna have to do cardio or something else to burn more calories than you take in until you lose that body fat.

you cannot spot burn fat by doing certain exercises. Cardio is a MUST along with your diet. W/o cardio and a proper diet you will never get rid of love handles.

I love doing side bends with weights (i.e. a db). It works great for your sides and gives you that "V" look.

The diet is OK...I don't think that needs ALOT of work.

Side bends...you mean standing there with a DB in one hand and just lowering it to the floor?

I'm already dreading getting on that treadmill...

The treadmill is the most boring, most useless form of cardio known to man. Go buy a cheap bicycle and ride it around the neighbor hood. Same results, a lot more fun, and you're actually outside doing something.

side bends > i use the same piece of equipment that you can do back hyperextensions on, i do not just stand and do them.

i never do the treadmill. i find cardio boring as all hell so i do 10 min on eliptical > 10 on stairclimber > 10 on eliptical. same amount of time but b/c i switch it up it makes it go by faster.

make sure to get your heart rate up there or you will not see the benefits from cardio that you are looking for. i see people beraly run on the treadmill for hours, 30 min a day is enough as long as you keep your heart rate up.

oh yeah.... do some research on HIIT (high intensity interval training).

A cardio vascular workout is defined as 20 minutes of keeping your heart beating within your target heartrate, which is normally like 70-80% of max rate. Do a 5 minute warmup, 20 minutes of running like an animal, and a 5 minute cool down. You'll feel damn good afterwards.

Im gonna try the side bend exercise. I usually do 30 min of cardio in the eliptical and burn around 450 calories. Then I lift weights afterwards.

i prefer to do cardio post workout. i've tried the reverse and i feel weaker when lifting.

I've never tried cardio after lifting because I'm normally beyond spent. I used to ride my bicycle to the gym though, that was pretty awesome. I seemed to have more energy when I got in and hit the weights.

Cardio pre-workout gets my heart rate up so I can lift afterwards. I've tried cardio post workout but my heart rate is not high enough to lift heavily.

I'm not a huge person, but I had that "squishy" are aruound my waist...just like you're trying to get rid of...I run 3 miles twice a week or more...and take spinning class...the more cardio I've done, the more it's burned off...i know it stinks, but when you start to see the results it only motivates you more Ü

cardio, diet and training. That and a positive mentality and a clear idea of what you are trying to achieve. Search the forums, there is plenty of info for "cutting" diets.

Same here. I was nearly 200lbs, and I did the bicycle routine I described above 5 days a week. I went to 160lbs so fast that it'd make your head spin. I was like a fucking bean pole. It was sad.

honestly i used to have some baddd love handles and they are pretty much all gone, i have a circumference of 2" larger than my waist area as opposed to 6" 3 months ago... i just cut out the fat in my diet - basically ate no breaded or starched foods (no rice, popcorn, bagels, etc.)

plus just flat out running or swimming... that ish is gone. no crunches needed really, unless you want to do "Bicycle" abs.

+1 on all of the above.. good advise and right on point..

And for the record, side bends are easy. No reason not to do them...

Spot Reduction Myth

Contrary to what the info commercials suggest, there is no such thing as spot reduction. Fat is lost throughout the body in a pattern dependent upon genetics, sex (hormones), and age. Overall body fat must be reduced to lose fat in any particular area. Although fat is lost or gained throughout the body, it seems the last area to become lean or the first area to get fat is the midsection (in men and some women) and hips and thighs (in women and few men). Sit-ups (http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/RectusAbdominis/WtInclineSitUp.html), crunches (http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/RectusAbdominis/WtCrunch.html), leg-hip raises (http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/RectusAbdominis/WtInclineLegHipRaise.html), leg raises (http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/HipFlexors/WtInclineLegRaise.html), hip adduction (http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/HipAdductors/LVSeatedHipAdduction.html), hip abduction (http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/HipAbductor/LVSeatedHipAbduction.html), etc. will only exercise the muscles under the fat.
