So... a friend and I were discussing stuff and the Dyson Vacuum came up. He had recently bought one and raved that there is nothing like it. I said, "whatever, a vacuum is a vacuum". He insisted that I go to Target and buy it (they have a 90 day return policy if I didn't like it).

So, I did. I know, I know... $500 vacuum cleaner? I said that too... But I paid it out and here is my review...

I was told by him to do a full vacuum of the whole house on my old vacuum cleaner, a Hoover Self Propelled ($300). So I did... I cleaned all the carpets and it filled about 3/4 of a bag.

I then put the Dyson together and started in the master bedrooom. I immediately noticed that it was quieter then the Hoover. It also definately made the carpet "more fluffy". After about 10mins, I was done with just the master bedroom. I stopped the vacuum and looked at the container... My god. It was half full with all this dirt and shit... :-o

Needless to say I continued on the rest of the house and I am more then impressed.

I am now going to put the Hoover out by the curb...

Well worth the investment at this point. If you can afford it, buy it.

It's kind of like buying a better bed, you don't know its worth it until you actually use it at home.

My mom bought one and has been pretty happy with hers.

We don't have much carpet at all (our bedroom and stairs) so we do a lot more mopping and sweeping then anything else and only use the vacuum to get crap out of the corners...not worth the investment to me.

We looked at one for approximately 10 seconds, then I thought about the price and how many "disposable" vacuums we could buy for that, shook my head, and went with the disposable

Maybe we'll revisit the idea for more than 10 seconds when this one dies, we kill a vacuum a year on average, damn pets.

Here is the dirt from just one room... this is AFTER I already vacuumed with the Hoover... :)

I post on a lot of dog message boards, and people swear by the Dyson if you have any pet hair at all. They don't even say to buy the "animal" version - just any Dyson will hold up a million times better than the cheaper ones.

I have a Hoover, but I'd love a Dyson. I don't have much carpet, so I can't justify it.

Did you get the one that rides on the ball? OR the regular style one?

I was zooming around target with the roller ball model. It was interesting but wondered if I could get used to it.

Heh..I used to sell $2000 Rainbow's . (when i was 19, ...11 years ago) I dont even know how much those sell for now. Thats an old trick. Joe, theres a good chance you could have changed out the filter on your Hoover, gone back over, and refilled the bag immediatly after doing the whole house once. Part of the rainbow demonstration was to clean part of someones carpet with their vac, then go back over it with the rainbow, using a small filter in the hose...you would always pull a bunch of dirt up afterwards...thing is, I could go right back over it again with the rainbow, and get more dirt. There is just ALOT of dirt in any carpet.

That being said, any machine that illiminates a bag, will always pull more cfm, and more dirt because the airflow isnt constantly being reduced as the bag fills. It will also draw less amps than your hoover, and save you a little on energy as well. The disons are a cool machine and a bargain compared to the rainbow, which uses water as a filter.

Having 90% tile floors for the past year or so really makes me aware of how dirty most carpets are, regardless of how often they are vacumed.

I have tile in the kitchen/dining room and the rest of the house is wood/laminate. My Roomba does a great job of keeping those areas nice and tidy:mrgreen:

we had a rainbow vacuum that lasted for 12 years ant the only reason we got rid of it was that we were tired of disposing the bucket of water. we now have a dyson which is very quiet but the rainbow worked alot better due to the use of water.

The base model DC15.

After 2 months, I am STILL throughly impressed with this vacuum.

It was worth every penny.
