I most likely will need total knee replacement surgery on both knees. I am not happy about this but want to get the info now so that i am slightly more prepared.

has anyone had this and experience (good/bad)
should i do both at the same time or 1 at a time?
Who was the doc?

Any info would be great!!

Thanks!!

I used to work for an orthopedic doc in their physical therapy dept. Most people i've worked on that got them were old and could not handle both at the same time. You look young from your profile pic so you may be able to handle it. Guess it depends on what your doc thinks you can handle/ do you want to go in for two seperate surgeries.

I worked for Brandon Ortho and associates, not even sure if they are still around though.

I'm supposed to be going in for work on my MCL.

I personally would do one at a time.. but thats just me. More because I couldn't handle no use of both legs at the same time..

I've only known people that get them done while in sports and honestly as soon as someone would get a knee surgery done, that person would never get a decent contract to play again. From what i've heard the rehab of your knees is pretty hard and its never 100% perfect again.. but i dont know if you're just walking around and not doing anything too hard it might be ok

well my knees were never right..playing sports or not. my kneecap on both knees doesnt track in the center (like it is supposed to) it goes to the right when i staighten my leg. hense when i put pressure on them (stairs etc) my leg bones slough off the underside of my kneecap. Hense the need for total replacement

I have similar issues with my knees from running so much in the military. My doc hasn't mentioned knee replacement yet, but I'm sure it will be in the future. It is very uncomfortable for me to even go to an amusement park and stand in those long lines all day. Unfortunately its something I have to deal with as well. Good luck to ya!

I have just one small recommendation. Go to GNC and buy some Arnica. Your doctor will probably recommend it to you, but if he doesn't bring it up, ask him yourself.

What is it and what is it supposed to do?

A quick quote from a website:

(Arnica) is the first medicine to use following dental procedures and surgery. In addition, Arnica is useful for bruises, swelling, muscle soreness, sprains and strains, falls and blows, overexertion from lifting, sports and childbirth.

I just had my left acl and mcl and my right mcl done about 1.5 months ago. I could walk with ctructhes but it was painful. Took a month to recover. I still have a limp and can't run or jog. If you are replacing your knee I would do one at a time.

I had my ACL done a few years ago and I was good to go, its just now recently giving me problems but mainly from playing basketball on concrete instead of the hardwood Ive been playing on and gaining 25lbs probably didnt help either.

I only had a prob. with one knee but from the guys I played with they would get them done six months apart because it would give them sufficient time to rehab the first one prior to the next one being done. They also seem to get better rehab on each one seperate then when doing both together. Good luck
