Keeping Weeds Out of Rocks

On both sides of my entrance walkway to my home I currently have dirt/soil and I removed all plants from the earth as I wish to add some decrotive rocks on both sides of the walkway to my home. The only problem is I have massive weeds that grow from the dirt if left un-attended for a few weeks. I am pretty sure the dirt/soil is constant to the earth so I can't empty this and was wonder what do I need to use to keep the weeds from growing through the rocks.

they sell rolls of stuff you roll out ontop of the soil/dirt, then cut Xs in it to plant your plants, then put the rock on... i made the mistake of passing up on buying and installing some when i put in my lavarock, HUGE regret, always putting up weeds in my plant bed now...

I used the screen looking stuff before I put the decorative rock in my flower beds. Works great. You get an occasional weed that makes it through but it works well.

If you don't plan on planting anything in the beds, then spray Round-up on them before pulling them. Pull them after 24 hours so the Round-up get's to the roots.

I heard salting before will avoid anything from coming up. That of diesel fuel :-o

get some weed killer, that stuff works fast

I always use the "weed paper" stuff that is grayish. They sell it at home depot lowes etc...

Just do your self a favor and buy the commercial grade kind and spend the extra money.

Also if you do not plan on having plants there do at least two layers and keep at LEAST 3-4" worth of rock.

If you come across some old junk ass carpet for free, you can lay it down as a barrier to prevent weeds also..

+1 for everyone reccommending the roll out weed barrier. I'd spray some week killer and then roll that stuff out and then put the rock over it.

+1 to the roll out stuff, it IS expensive but worth it in the long run.........the stuff is suppose to last practically forever

damn I'm really glad we have a gardener come to the house! Good luck with them, those weeds are bastards!
