Well i noticed this the last two times I have gone for a fun. Lost of upper back pain. Seems to be in the area of the lats.
Any ideas what has caused this? I used to run on a flex deck and never had the issue. Now I started running on the sidewalks and this is what has happened. I have new shows now that control my pronation and have much more stability so I have ruled the shoes out.
Any ideas greatly appreiciated. I will say I did not stretch out my back before the run. I guess I should also start doing that?

A good stretch is always recommended. Did you workout your back/chest then day before or in the past week excessively hard? Ive noticed on days after I deadlift my lats are sore when I run as well, but it more a nuisance than anything. Try loading up on some potassium for the next few days and stretch every few hours at home to loosen up your muscles. Hope that helps.
Also, if your lats start to get sore while you run drop your arms for a minute (meaning dont pump) and let your shoulders drop.

Shoes are awesome. I tried on about 10 different shoes to support my pronation(known about this for 10 years now) and also opted for an even more stable shoe(weak ankles). the guys at the running store are awesome...later found out one of them was my old high school manager when I worked at famous footwear! hahah
ANYWAY...I did not stretch my back at all before the run. I did the same stretches as normal. I had done 30 or so push ups before my run. Possibly that was it. I dunno. I have NEVER had this issue before...and now that I think about it I have never done push ups before my runs either.
I think I will do push ups tonight and not run and see what happens.
