Took me just about a week to do by myself :-) As soon as I'd get home from work I would start on the fence, roughly 6pm, and go till it started to get dark. Spent just under $1k at home depot for all the lumber, screws, concrete, hinges, etc but we ended up saving about $1k by doing it ourself. The wife helped with the pickets in one side but I did the rest...fun

Word of advice, go rent an auger to dig the holes (unless you have tree roots or something). It was well worth it seeing how I dug 25 holes in about three hours. I rented at 3:30pm so I got the 4 hour rate if I turned it in the next morning for a whopping $29. You can buy post hole diggers for that!

I'm happy I don't have to get dressed to walk the dog in the morning...just open the door and let her out!!! I'm a little bummed though...the people behind us were a little nuts and that was one of the reasons for putting the fence up but they ended up moving out last week. Ah well.

Nice work, looks good. Did you treat it with anything so it will last longer?

Not yet. I gotta take back all the pickets we didn't use and I'm going to get some thompson's water seal. Plus I need to get all the saw dust off of the fence too.

Looks good but are you saying you bought the individual pieces of wood and put them all up one at a time?

If so, why didn't you just buy the pre-made pieces?

If not, ignore me, I am a loser who doesn't understand English:mrgreen:

I bought them individually and put ever single piece up by hand. It's cheaper than buying the pre-made panels and I can also control the slope of the fence. There's a decent grade to my lot to the point that I'd have to step down each panel so there'd be a 2-3 inch difference between each panel (looks like crap to me).

looks great. Good job. More patience then I would have. I wouldnt be able to do that myself. It would never get done.

The only thing that kept me going was that I hated having all the wood in my driver and leaving my car outside. I've got a bunch of tile work that I still need to do but thats all tucked away in the garage. My wife is getting on me about doing it but I think I'll be taking a break for a little....My golf game has been slackin.

Good job, I did the same exact thing so I could let my dogs out aswell. Went out to home depot and bought everything...and dug the holes by hand using a post hole digger. Did you pour concrete in the holes or no?

I did alot of sections by hand for going down the slope....its not so bad after a while...time flies though!

Deck screws. The panels aren't going anywhere :-)

I did cement every post. I ran out (thankfully) and when I went out to the depot the next day I noticed that I nicked part of my irragation system so I had to repair that before I could do the concrete. Damn thing backwashed my hole but at least I found it and made the repair.

If you watch a fence company put a fence up they do it the same way. Well at least the one i saw Whitt do.

I doubt you need a permit on a fence. If you do, oh well, it's up and nobody said anything lol. The only paperwork I had to do was fill out a form from the Homeowners association and send it in. None of my neighbors are crazy (at least the ones that were just moved out) and there's been a couple asking me to help with theirs when they get all the supplies (yipeee).

you do need a permit to put up a new fence though I doubt anyone will end up saying anything

in my parents neighborhood (Lauderdale by the Sea), the code inspector would just ride around all day. If you did ANYTHING he would be there checking for a permit

Looks great, you can save thousands if you know what you're doing. I would be willing to bet that's not your first fence installation...
