My wife and I were looking for a tree to put in our front yard last year. Our requirements was it had to be very low maintenance, flower, and not get big enough to have a limb crash through our roof during a storm. We did some research and found crepe myrtle's fit the bill nicely. We found one for $20 and planted it. We planted it last fall and during the winter it was looking sad. No leaves, just twigs staring at us. But once spring came around, we started watering more frequently, and its really taken off. I swear if you stare at it you can see it growing. Its got ALOT of new growth and flowers on them.

The flowers come in a bunch of colors as well, ours is white but there are pink, mauve, purple, red, and some places offer custom colors like blue and green. The nice thing is the leaves are like crepe paper (hence the name) so they are very soft and small. Once they fall to the ground, they don't pile up and get crunchy like alot of trees.

So if you are looking for something to brighten up your yard that takes care of itself, look into them.

great idea. I took out a couple of older small trees in my yard and now it looks way to plain
I may look into these and since I dont own the place yet this would be something that may work so I am not investing alot into the place if I dont keep it

yuppers, ive got about a dozen of these guys, most of them are about 6ft tall. Great thing is prune and trim them to keep them bushy or let them get super tall.

yeah, they are what you make them. I've seen some that are bushes less than 4 feet high. I've seen others that get 30-40 feet high. It all depends on how you keep them trimmed.

 No, the tree is in the front yard, no cars there. My house is kinda like a mullet, business in the front, casual in the rear.
