I'm quickly realizing the free motherboard that came with my 3400+ isnt going to do the job.

Current setup:

AMD 64 3400+
Biostar Mobo (2x184pin DDR)
80gb HD (EIDE)
DVD+RW
1GB Ram 2x512
450w PS

I've got an option here. Obviously trying to save money, but in a year or so I plan to drop a lot of cash on a really nice machine.

What I'm trying to accomplish is not wasting money by having to replace so much with the next machine, while getting my new second flatpanel 19" operational... if I can buy the 99$ DDR 1gb stick on Frys.com to go with it, awesome.

So heres the question- Look for an AGP dual-dvi card, stick with the 1gb ram I have, and deal with it for a while? Or, do I get a PCI-e board, and run dual cards (WTF is SLI?), or a dual dvi pci-e card? (FYI- I also need a board with a few PCI slots- I run a LOT of USB devices... and I already have an expansion card or two).

The less I spend now, the quicker I can get to running a dual-core machine (probably intel)... at which time, I'll be getting 1TB of storage, 4gb+ram, and at least a single dual core, fastest I can get at a reasonable price. This machine is used for graphic editing primarily, and I usually have Corel Draw x3, PS cs3, dreamweaver, etc... open, as well as basic office apps (word/openoffice.org, quickbooks, outlook), and winamp/aim/skype.

Aside from advise, looking for hardware suggestions, thanks!

I'd get a PCI-e card, no sense in buying the AGP when you can't use it later. SLI lets you link two video cards together, letting you use their combined power. (Research the card before you buy it, not all SLI cards work together, at least they didn't the last time to looked into SLI)

We're talking Socket 939 right? Not 754?

Just a word of advice, if you decide to go SLI down the road you can only use one monitor.

I so regret not getting PCI-E when I rebuilt my PC.

I already told you what SLI is.
