There's one opening in Brandon? Anyone know if it's in the mall, or in the new outside venue area?

Off topic but I am never going to that mall again. I went today and it took me almost an hour to find a parking spot. The construction definitely doesn't help.

I love 5 guys burgers and hotdogs. Been there a few times already and they just opened 3 weeks ago. Very good place. I like the hotdogs better than mels, and i've been going to mels for like 10 years.

I think Mel's sucks. I heard all this hype so I went and was majorly disappointed. Paid like $5 for a ordinary hot dog with some peppers and a pickle thrown on top. What a joke. Guess they can get away with it being all the tourists from busch gardens come through there. I wouldn't recommend that place to anyone.

its more the fact that they are a local landmark then anything...but I love their hotdogs and Im not a huge hotdog fan...that is the only mels that stayed open, there used to be one on Dale Mabry a looooong time ago.
I have been to the one on Fowler I think 4 times now in the past 2 weeks. I think I might hit it up again tonight.. When I am up in MD, I hit a 5 guys up at least once a week. The Fries are so good..

Werd....I got the regular cheese burger with friend unjuns and sauteed shrooms and mayo...WOW...friggin GREAT.
But damn I got the small fries and there was still like a half pound left in the bag after I took out the container. :crack:
I will be frequenting that establishment most definitely.
Went today. I was'nt blow away by their burger, not the best by a long-shot. Their cajun fries were great. The price was mediocre.
I was surprised as how freshly the food was prepared. They had fresh potato sacks out ready to make fries, and the guy said they prepare their patties fresh daily.

its on par with steak n shake....
except its a lot fresher
yep, they never use frozen ground beef... they even have the buns made fresh just for them.
I think the fries kick steak and shakes crappy little shoelace fries.

Just checked the website. Some of them say "Coming Soon" and the one on Kennedy is not one of them, so I'm assuming it's open.

I went to the one on the corner of Fletcher and Dale Mabry a few weeks ago. I thought it was good.
On an unrelated note, they're opening up a new Chipotle on the corner of Fletcher and Dale Mabry. It looks like it is going to be open fairly soon.

Went to the one on Kennedy yesterday and wasn't pleased. Their location sucks - the parking lot is so damn small...you have to park next door and walk over. Too many people were there...had to wait like 10 minutes (and barely made it back to work in time). Got my burger and somehow onions and some bacon had made its way between the bun and meat. (which I obviously didn't order)
Overall their food is good, just had a bad experience at a bad location.
EDIT: And it's NOT cheap. If you get a cheeseburger and a drink (NO fries) it's more than six bucks. With fries I'd imagine it's $8 something. Practically the same as going to an actual restaurant.

Ate there tonight solely on the recommendations of everyone that has given positive feedback.. Burger was awesome (all the toppings were free by the way). There regular burger is a double patty burger and there small is a single by the way. My only complaint was that there was way too much seasoning on my cajun fries. I am one to eat very seasoned, VERY spicy things, but I just think it was too much of it.
Recommended but next time I will be ordering the regular fries!

Went to the one located off Fletcher. Tried the famous double patty burger. It was good, not the best. I liked their cajun fries even thought my mouth was flamin after 10 fries. They really do give you a lot for a regular size. You get a cup full of fries and then its like they pour another 2cups into your bag. i also thought they overkilled the cajun seasoning. next time imma ask if they can take it easy on the cajun spice.

ok here is a good question to toss a wrench into things. 5 Guys is like a East Coast type deal, anyone ever had In N Out which is more West Coast flavor? I know guys who swear by In N Out, and I have not had 5 guys yet...so anyone here had the pleasure of both and have an opinion on whos better?
rainmkr
08-01-2007, 12:52 PM
In N Out is good... i have that any time i goto Cali, i definately prefer 5 Guys over them though.
i love fast food joints with SMALL menus though, right the point and not a lot of other garbage to pick from.
Had 5 guys a couple time since it's right across the street from the dealership I work at. Burgers are small for the price in my opinion, but they are fresh so I guess you do get what you pay for. My girl and I shared their regular sized fries, and still didn't eat them. Overall, they are good and enjoy their food when I have a few extra $$ to spend on lunch.

see that is what's wrong with american culture now. you expect huge portions of food instead of tastier/pricier portions. everyone does it too consciously or not.

Have to agree to the dude above, quality over quanity, been to the one on dale mabry and kennedy like 10 times already you dont taste a shitload of preservatives when you have one of their burgers. just a fresh chunk of cow, I'd definitively recommend this place to anybody that wants to have a solid(best word i could come up with) burger, it may not be the best but its what a burger should taste like, best of all its all put in a brown paper bag, and the grease soaks thru, that right there is all 100% red blooded americana. Probably what a burger tasted like before there was fuel injection and cassettes granted I wasnt around for them times. Damn it...now i wanna go get one lol, these guys should be letting us eat on the house for all the publicity were giving them

My wife and I used to live in Woodbridge, VA, right down the road of one of the original Five Guys locations. We go to the one in the Brandon Mall all the time, and it's every bit as good as the ones in the DC area. Best burgers around, no lie. The "small" fries is enough for 2-3 people. I get the bacon cheeseburger with mushrooms and fried onions and cajun fries...mmmmm...
I used to live in SoCal years ago, and In-N-Out is pretty good (dub-dub animal style!) but Five Guys blows them away. Seriously, if there is a better burger out there, we haven't found it yet. Five Guys ROCKS!!!

I've eaten at Five Guys when I was in CT and I couldn't believe how big the fries were (I ordered the large, oops!). Great stuff though, I feel full just from thinking about it.
