As you know I've moved to Florida about 7-8 months ago.
When i first moved here, at Al Lopez Park, this lady and my family were talking. She said that when you go to HS in FL and have good grades, and been a FL resident for over a year you can go to College for free.

Now i never ever heard of attending college for free, but not only this lady has said it, but also a few other people.

I been trying to find out more info on this for my little cousin who is a Junior in HS and been wanting to move to FL b/c her interest of study is all over here in Florida.

Does anyone have any info on this..Ive searched and have come up short...
has anyone else been told / or heard of this also?

Any info is useful!!! Thanks

She might have been referring to the Florida's Bright Futures Scholarship but that's something that you have to apply and qualify for during highschool.

Definitely what she was talking about. Good program, I just wish I would have graduated in FL instead of the big TX.

Yeah, The FL Bright Futures Scholarship. All that is needed is a maintained certain GPA throughout HS. I had a 75% free ride to college on one. Tell your cuz or whoev. to talk to their HS guidance counselor. They will have all the information needed. Oh, certain classes must be taken in HS as well, two years of foreign language and a few others i believe.

Yeah it's easy as shit to get, which is why there's talk of discontinuing it...

i think it's great seeing how not many HS students here in Fl want to take advantage of these types of programs.

My brother for example.
But thanks for the info...
i will most def let her know...Thank you..very appreciated.

Now with this program they will pay for everything? xcept books right?
wow thats gr8...i'm from up north...it's kinda hard to get any help for college...(they're greedy)...

Actually even with the 75% scholorship, you get all your tuition paid for in a Florida community college. They just started doing that as a incentive to get more people going to community colleges.

Well, college isn't for everyone. I know many people who went to college and then dropped out because they either were making good with their career or put the time and effort they spent in college into developing a business.

It might not be for everyone but I've gained so much from it I can't imagine having not gone. I've still got anouther 4.5yrs left if I work hard and I'm really looking forward to all the knowledge I'll gain from it.

Florida Bright Futures Scholarship:
To qualify, you have to have graduated from a florida hs and been there for at least the entire senior year. You must have a full year residency in florida. There are classes you have to take as well - foreign language, a certain amount of sciences, math, english, etc.

To get the 75% scholarship, you must graduate with a 2.8, at a 970 sat score.

To get the 100% scholarship, you must graduate with 3.0, and a 1270 sat or 29 act score.

it pays for any florida public university/comm college tuition. if you go to private school in florida, you get the same amount as what you would get if you went to a public school. Example: I go to a private school. I get a little over $3,000 a semester because thats the average going rate for a public school tuition per semester.

Once you've received this, you have to maintain a certain GPA in college to keep receiving it. I think its a 2.75 for the 75% and a 3.0 for the 100%.

The 100% scholarship gives you a little bit for books (like $200 or so). They do NOT pay for dorms or anything else.

And actually, so many kids are taking advantage of this that they are having trouble funding it and talking about phasing it out. I was on a 100% scholarship to UCF because of this wonderful program. It is funded by the Florida Lottery (and some taxes I think).

if your cousin wants to go to school in florida for college, she should move down here asap and graduate from a hs here.

^^ I second everything, but I have the 75% paid and you need a 2.75 to keep it. And for the 75% they give you no $$ for books.
