I weigh 180 at 5' 8" and I want to get back down to 135-ish.

At work, I'm on my ass all day.. but so far all this week I've been walking during lunch around the building.

I don't have alot of spare time at home, or extra money, so a gym membership is out of the question.

My parents, on the other hand, do have a tredmill that's just going to waste, as well as a bike or three. So I figure I can get a decent workout with those.

I just need to figure out the food part of it.

I've been cutting down.. eating salads for lunch, and having those small peanut bags for a snack mid-afternoon.

Dinner though, I still eat alot of the same stuff, just cut down alot on my intake. Like last night I ate two slices of pizza and a bread stick where I used to eat four slices in a sitting.

Is just cutting down and walking/biking going to give me a change?

Im certainly no expert here, but from my perspective, and what worked for me at the time. Was cutting out soda, and drinking water, instead of eating some leftovers at night, when I got hungry, I drank water, and ate baby carrots, or tuna fish. Also, a moderate amount of exercise will go a long way to a body that's not used to it. So doing stuff like a few sit ups a night (real ones not crunches), walking around the block, and push ups (girlie ones if you cant do real push ups) or anything that gets your heart rate up for more then 5 minutes will honestly work.

The more you do, the better the results are. Just remember your body WILL get used to it, you will plateau, and at that point you will have to step everything up a notch, IE even less bad food, and even more exercise.

Too bad I don't practice what I preach.

I have already cut out soda... It's been a good two weeks since I last had a pepsi. Don't get me wrong, I'll drink a diet pepsi every once in a while.. but not like I used to.

And you don't eat baby carrots! Tuna though... yeah I remember you liking that crap. :puke:

So basically, according to your post, I'm already doing everything I should be... I dunno, just seems like I should be doing more, or something different. :dunno:

First off, you need to drop all the garbage you are eating. Second, start doing cardio first thing in the morning on an EMPTY stomach. You need to eat healthier food such as brown rice, sweet potatoes, chicken(low fat), tuna, tilapia, orange roughy. Drink 1-2gallons of water every day. Drop the sodas, flavored water and all that bullshit ass stuff. I'd add a multi-vitamin and 6g of fish oil every day. Do 30mins of Interval cardio 5 X a week. Look it up if you don't know what that is. If you keep doing what you are doing, you will eventually get fatter. By eating a lot less like you are doing now, you are starving your body. You will fuck up your metabolism BAD. Eat more, smaller portion, about 3-4hours apart.

First of all, I don't drink flavored waters. I only drink bottled water... Zephyhills, etc.

Secondly, no can do on the tuna, I'll throw that shit back up.

Yes, I'm eating less at meals, but I'm replacing some of it as well. I plan on getting a decent grained cereal for breakfasts (A meal I used to never eat). Plus I eat a small snack between lunch/dinner which I didn't do. And possibly a nurti-grain bar between breakfast/lunch.

Perhaps you should re-read my original post.

Read that, sign up on fitday.com, figure out how many calories you need per day, make a diet, then come ask questions.

From my experience, the best diet I ever had was when I lived in Japan and ate mostly fish, veggies and rice. I also walked everywhere and dropped a good 20 lbs. within about 5-6 months.

Over in the U.S. food can get expensive as well, but brown rice is best to cut down on the glutons of white rice, lots of fresh or frozen veggies, add fresh and frozen fruit (canned is the WORST!) for those sweet cravings...and if you do get a craving for something bad - don't deny yourself because when people completely cut things out of their diet, then that's when they usually cheat and binge like crazy.

Take portions you would normally eat and cut it in half.

And eat 4 or 5 smaller meals throughout the day instead of 2 or 3 big meals

Always eat breakfast too, even if it's just a piece of fruit, some sugar free yogurt (Dannon Lit N Fit is actually pretty good) or a Special K bar (the lowest in fat and calories) because it will speed up your metabolism.

If your office is on another floor, take the stairs instead of the elevator. And continue to walk around the building like you've been doing.

You can change the way you eat without feeling deprived. Nothing anyone is saying on here is rocket science and all is pretty common knowlegde, it's just a matter of actually doing it and making a change.

Thank you, Queenwench. You're probably the only one that read my posts.

I've cut my meals down, not completely in half. But like I said, I'm also having a couple snacks during the day. This morning I had a Special K bar... those things are pretty effin' good! But again, I didn't eat an actual breakfast. I'll be heading to the store to get a decent "good for you" cereal this weekend when I have time.

I also forgot to mention that I currently take Vitamin C (500mg) every morning and I plan to start taking B Complex as well, then cut out the coffee I drink every day. Mind you, I'm not a big coffee drinker anyway... one cup a day is all I'd drink. So it'll be easy to cut that out. :)

I've been taking the stairs down... but since I'm a heavy smoker, I don't take them up because I do get winded very easily. I'm planning on getting on Chantix for that... several people I work with have been on it and quit in less than a week. So it'll be nice to be able to breathe again!

Being a heavy smoker couteracts the Vitamin C you take, so be careful that you don't OD on the vitamins! If your pee is TOO yellow (it will be from taking vitamins anyway) then cut back on the dosage because the yellow pee is your body rejecting the vitamins that you already have and don't need. Drinking a lot of water (without overdoing it) also helps to flush everything out as well.

Let me know how Chantix works. My doctor was skeptical about putting me on it due to other meds I take as well as my trial Wellbutrin ended up making me break out in cysts all over my body so I stopped taking that and still smoke (I feel you about going up the stairs more than one flight)

That's why I only take half the Vitamin C pills I got. I have the 1000 mg from when I was sick to get rid of a throat infection quicker. After I got better, I started getting headaches from them. So I started taking half, and I've been fine with that.

As for Chantix. It works awesome. One of the people here that took it is on a few different meds. Cause she's nuts.

It works really well... you start on a .25 dose for five days I think, then move up to the .5. You still smoke on the .25, but when you get to the .5 it makes you all sick and shit when you smoke. I guess that's what makes you quit and lose all cravings for it... because your body literally rejects the nic, without actually puking.

I recommend it to anyone. Also, if you do get on it, most insurance won't cover it. But I know Pfizer, the co that makes it, has like a $15-$20 coupon for it you can get through their site.

 - I'm not nuts, my meds are for fibromyalgia and I'm starting a study for a new drug for fibro patients next week and I have to stop taking my current meds and not take anything else except Tylenol...so getting on Chantix right away will have to wait until the study is over - which I think is about 16 weeks...but I'll remember to ask you about it again after I'm done with the study!
