View Full Version : Banning people...

Ok... so I know people get banned for certain things. Posting spam, religious nuts, being a complete ass to everyone...
But there is some people that I wonder how they're still on the site. Do all the admins/mods have a thread where they discuss if someone needs to be banned or something? Is it like a majority rules thing? JW

It is actually different for each user and situation that arises. We'll usually ask another admin to see if it feels justified or if theres something we can do to curb their behavior. It's different every time.

We discuss each banning usually in the admin forum. If you have some names for us to discuss, bring them on ! LOL

How about a tally of how many times my name's come up?

Nope, not you either. :D

I wouldn't TRY to get someone banned though so I'll just keep it to myself and hope they do something bad enough to get banned. :lmao:

neither bob aundies nor spelunking have come up for banning. However, there are many instances where we ban first, and ask questions later. It's just totally circumstantial

putting on my serious hat for a second, we dont really use "hard and fasT" rules on banning. Most of us have been at this for 5+ years now and we have a good feel for trouble makers. Bannings are a way of conserving resources. Why spend a bunch of time dealing with someone when you can remove them entirely and save time ?

So basically, when someone becomes an issue that takes up our time, we ban them.

3 other things I personally ban imediately on. Attacks on staff (of a serious nature), hating on the sites (if you dont like the sites, piss off) and evading a previous ban. Often bans are temporary. A Day, a Week etc. when someone decides to reregister and keep being an issue its instantly permanent and we have alot of ways to ban people outside of the forum software.

i'm also a fan of banning a workplace if someone keeps being a moron from work and having his co-workers go to his desk and set him straight. Works wonders (specially when your boss gets banned for your fucktardedness and likes to browse the site).

I'm reformed, I dont ban much anymore, but i used to LOVE a good banning.. lol.. i still remember my favorite banning. A guy in the subaru forum quoted me, insulted me and said ban me then you pussy, you wont. i quoted him back and said "User banned at own request" and slapped a perm ban on him. Retard. Ah the good old days.. lol

Oh, and one other thing, becareful what you wish for. When I am faced with 2 people arguing on the board about RL stuff, or just bickering in general and someone PM's me a whole PM thread and says OMG he insulted me, threatened me etc etc... rather than try and work out what the fuck is going on, who is right.. who is wrong.. who should be banned.

i ban them both and go about my day. Solves the problem and doesnt make me spend useless amounts of time getting involved in crap i dont give a fuck about.

its a sound, solid, workable strategy and fixes the issue imediately. From my end anyhow.

That all makes sense.
Thanks for your response all powerful Zate. I shall never say you won't ban me.

lol....its not like that..

simple rule, dont become something we need to spend time on dealing with.. its cool to have fun, we like to have fun on here too.. but when people go too far it becomes not fun for a number of groups of people .. when its not fun for us, we ban people to bring the fun back... were not here to ruin anyones fun, when we ban its to bring back the fun for the majority of people.

Please have this moron banned, its really getting irritating.

 I seen them both riding together than go clean each other stinkyass with its!:lmao: ..BARLY UGLYASS WERE FUCKING RETARED7 FROM THE BEHIND ON THE BACK OF HIS BIKE!:mars: :moldy: :monkdnce:

Aside from his TERRIBLE grammar and English skills in general, he gets on people's asses and starts sending them confusing messages .

*Edit* I think the messages are supposed to be insulting but when 99% of the "statements" he makes include excessive use of allcaps and cursing, its hard to tell if he's excited or trying to tell you off.

oh yeah, also let me add.. instead of whining about something later in a different thread, use this button http://www.tampaforums.com/forums/styles/trnight/buttons/report.gif to the left to report posts you think are bad.

dont abuse it... but definately use it..

if more people used that, and the ignore fucntion things would run much smoother.

I have a suggestion... you know how when you click on someones name the drop box comes down. Can "Add person to ignore list" be one of the options?

Spelunking
03-17-2007, 04:40 PM
Alright, here's what I don't understand, why is there even an ignore feature? If someone you don't care for posts something, ignore it, don't read it, or don't respond to it, pretty simple to me. Putting someone on an "ignore" list is all types of high school, and retarded. Obviously that's just my opinion, and should only be taken as such.

LilBit
03-17-2007, 05:24 PM
If it's a topic youre reading, you can't help but scan through the post. Sometimes without even reading who posted it. I know I scan threads a lot and usually a certain someone will say something completely idiotic or be a complete ass to someone so.... it's easier to just ignore the post than see it and be tempted to say something back. (Especially if you like being a smartass and speak your mind like me.)

I say ban Spelunking for that sig. It's like seeing your grandfather stare at you through a PC all day.

Zate
03-17-2007, 06:38 PM
Pretty much what Pebbles said, and so we can say "put them on your ignore list" when someone complains about someone else.

The other option is to just ban both parties, in which case spelunking, i'll remember that when i next advise someone to put you on ignore ;)

Honestly, I don't see why this is even an issue. I agree with Spelunking and although that might get me banned. Why not just be the grown up in a situation and not respond. All this, "He's bothering me, he is bashing me, he offended me" Geez people, it's the damn internet. So what if you have to read what someone says even if by accident. Get over it. If you don't let it bother or affect you then there isn't a need for an ignore option. Time to grow up!

and even I tend to agree with you.. if people treated each other on here like it was face to face and not the internet then things would be much easier to monitor, but they don't. E-Thuggery is rife and the ignore function is a means to an end.
