looking for someone to suggest a good, hopefully non biased, book on world religion. I've been looking on amazon for a couple books. Just wanted to get some opinions from some people on here. Thanks

I know of a book with differing worldviews, but, it is biased toward the idea of a supreme being controling everything. Wish I could knew myself of a non-biased approach. I would be interested in reading it too.

Most universities offer religion classes. Check with USF and see what text book they use, or go to the USF book store and check.

Look into religious sociology.. Jared Diamond makes great books, but he doesn't focus on religion.

I have such a book, but I haven't read it yet. I'm no help, but I am interested in the answers as I am wanting to learn about world religions. I just need to read the damn book..it's a college textbook, btw.

Are you looking at a broad idea or specific sects?

either or. I ordered one book that I believe is just a brief introduction into the worlds most popular religions. Probably need something that goes into a little more depth once I'm done with it.

Dell Dechant was my prof for world religion at USF, he's written many good books and teachs an excellent class

USF has the best Religious Studies Department (I should know as it was my double major along with anthropology) so any of the book lists that they have on their online syllabi would be the best place to start looking.

I still have all of my textbooks from my classes over there. I can post a few titles and authors up here tonight when I get home!

Dell ROX! He wrote me one of the best letters of recommendation I have ever seen - I even kept it in my box of collectibles because he was THAT cool and VERY unbiased during classes. Danny Jorgensen is also VERY cool in that department!

Here are a list of some that I had to check under the USF Religious Studies Dept. but this should be good enough for you to start...I think I have most of these books and would let you borrow one at a time...I still have a bug in my head that thinks I'm going to pursue my PhD in Religious Studies so I've kept ahold of most of my old textbooks for reference!

Many Peoples Many Faiths (8th ed.) – Robert Ellwood
Comparative Religious Ethics: A Narrative Approach – Dell deChant and Darrell Fasching
World Religions in America (3rd ed.) – Jacob Neusner
