View Full Version : Router Issue - Please HELP
I have a new BELKIN wireless G router that I have installed.
When I try to download a file whether wirelessly or hardwired to it, about a minute after the download starts, it hangs and wont go further.
I have connected the Modem directly to the computer and the download goes fine. But on the router, it always hangs.
I have the BrightHouse 10M system and it works fine. (fios, 15MB/s not avail. where i live)
What can i doooooooo?

Try updating the firmware on the router.

Are you trained on their software? Are you kept abreast of their known issues?

remove the "domain" name that is on the router and turn off the DMZ setting if its on. I had the same issue and those two steps resolved it.

If it works, that's super odd.

Depends on your idea of "Practical". I removed a Pix 501 to install a SonicWall TZ170 at my house.

I built my own router with IPCop, but I'm not going to suggest it to someone with limited technical experience. If you hand someone a Pix, they're not going to have a clue wtf to do with it (501s come with a decent default config, but god forbid they need to do some custom configuration).
Not to mention the expense of PIXes and Sonicwalls.

My home network definitely isn't important enough for anything more than a $60 router with opensores shit, or a monowall

I have an AD domain at home, and I have a VPN tunnel to several customers... I like to use what I support...and they were free...

Free is nice, lol.
If you come across any more Sonicwalls for free/cheap, let me know. I'd like to learn their stuff, but I don't feel like dropping the $$$ on it.

The TZ's are basically a gui interface, really simple

I know, but I've never used one. I'd like to be able to say I have experience with them (preferably advanced).

The two companies really have nothing to do with one another apart from a trademark ownership

just getting ready to post this. If it's just a home router for light business use, get a cheap netgear or linksys. no need for a cisco at home unless you run a home office.
