Open Lab Nights M-W-F (CCNA)

I am again thinking about hosting an open lab night here at Boson Training. The idea for this night vs the Friends and Family CCNA clinic (see other thread) is more for people who want to jump right into the gear and get a more hands on approach. Ideally the night would start anywhere from 7pm until midnight at the latest. Classroom training environment with access to all the gear a CCNA should ever get their hands on. The lab would be our official Boson Training Lab guide we use in all of our CCNA training and boot camps.

Now, here's the juicy part.

Normally when we run a weekly training camp, students come in sit in class(never see the gear unless they ask) and telnet into their already built pods. They get a book and crack away. The way I want to do it is taking it a step further. I want to have the student (you) actually come in, see the gear, cable your own pod, then crack away. This way you can get a solid understanding about routers and switches, reading simple topology's/network diagrams AND learn how to wire a rack/pod. This is what helped me get a quicker/stronger understanding of what I was actually doing in the gear.

This is just an idea and I could continue to do it on my own from my house, but I figured if I could help anyone else out and meet some new people in the process its a win/win. Its an opportunity thats worth the 30 min drive if thats your case. Studying and talking smack while grinding away is always a good time when your doing it with multiple people. Anyhow, post up if your interested and we'll get started on this right away.

Well in order to understand what you are doing in the lab, you would probably be better of sitting the clinic. You will learn a great deal doing the open labs night, probably more than the clinic, but mostly because its hands on. However if your trying to do a step by step lab and your trying to configure RIP, your going to probably want to know what RIP is, whats it stand for, why are you configuring it, etc.

I can start it as soon as someone says I should be up here waiting for them. However due to other obligations I am only available to do it the nights listed currently and anytime Saturday.

Nope. I just work here. But my boss encourages it. In fact he allows us to host LAN parties here whenever we want. It just has to be after hours, of course. Our CCNP and one of our security classes are the only two that sometimes run 1 saturday of the two week class. So we plan accordiing.

How many people do you have coming so far? Do you have an estimate?

No idea yet. I think just Pollo if he does call me after work. The upside is I live 5 minutes from my job however I dont want to sit around all night waiting for people to see if they are going to show up. If one person shows up, its still worth coming or staying here to get some lab time in. Ideally the labs are designed for two people per pod. Half way during the lab you have to be able to reach your other lab partner and such but if you know what your doing you can do both labs at the same time. Usually if its an odd number of people I can do two myself or fill in for somebody.

Pollo, I waited and cried when you didnt call or show up. I wanted to thank signedx for making the trip out from Brandon to shoot the shit for an hour. I was really hoping more people would of come as he was a last minute phone call as I was walking out the door. I want to offer this opportunity to people but I don't want to sit up at work for 2 extra hours wondering if people are going to call or show. It was a little early to expect anything to get cracking 1 or two days after posting. I want to keep this thread going if possible for future people who are interested in going. So as of now, if anybody wants to come up anytime tomorrow anytime or Monday after 5pm leave a reply and we'll git er dun.

Sounds about right. Urinating on the equipment causes it to produce what the industry describes as "magic smoke". This will be on the test, be prepared.:crack:

Just came back from today's session, this place is actually very nice, great class rooms, great lab, ect. I'm really impressed, dont' don't about you fuckers but Im taking advantage of this ish.
