I've noticed that DLPs last longer, apparently, and have a better 'faster' picture than LCDs, but say are more expensive. LCDs seem to not last 'as long', but have a crisp picture and are slightly cheaper. Well I know, it seems like, more about LCDs, so how can I determine which DLP is going to be the best bang for my buck? Correct me if I'm wrong, but would a DLP be the best buy right now? (that is the impression I'm getting at least, which is why I'm looking around to purchase one now) LCDs have a like contrast ratio, the higher the better (ex: 8000:1, 2500:1...) But how do you determine the best picture coming from a DLP type? If you have any reccomendations on a TV around the 1000$ area, preferably 1100 or less, please let me know. I'm just trying to get a hold on which is best to look for and such. Thanks in advance.

If you are wanting to stay in that price range, then you will want a DLP. The good LCD's are much more than that in price.

I have both an LCD and a DLP and I use my DLP more for gaming and my media center stuff. The picture just seems better in high definition and what not. I do like my LCD though as far as the picture goes when watching TV and playing some games.

If you want to keep it for a while, you will probably want to get a 1080i DLP TV and just spend the extra money.

I've got a 50" Samsung DLP, and from what I noticed when I was shopping, it was cheaper than the LCD models. This one was 899.

Our Hitachi 50" DLP was also 899. It has a beautiful picture. The only downside to it is no VGA port. Still, Component looks great!

I have a VGA port... :D (and 2 HDMI, 2 DVI, 3 component...)

We have 2 HDMI and like 6 component, along with 2 SVideo, just no VGA/DVI :(

My Samsung has 2 DVI, 2 HDMI, 2 S-Video, like 5 component, 1 VGA, and 1 coaxial.

Only one of the DVI's will work with sound though.. so basically it has one for full usage. :(

You can't buy a 1080i TV, what you can buy is a 1366x768 native panel, that will deinterlace a 1080i signal. I've said this a million and 43 times now, 720p will more than likely look better than 1080i, depending on the exact content you are viewing. 1080i is great for slow, or still images. As soon as you get a fast paced movie or sports, you can notice the drop in vertical resolution.

For my money, plasma is where it's at. You don't have the motion blurring of LCD (please don't include the higher end Sony, and most 120 hz lcd's), much better contrast, better color reproduction, and no shaking the mirrors to make a full image. I have yet to see any LCD look better than a Pioneer Elite plasma.

Since you want to stay under $1100, I would go with DLP. You'll get a better DLP set than LCD set at that price.
