I just got engaged... i am trying to take a picture of the ring on my girls finger... it just doesn't want to photograph at all... it is a 1.1K center stone and 1.8K total weight... so i know that it shines a good bit... but i also know that there has to be a way to take a picture of it... i just have a canon SD750... nothing too great only got it to take pictures on vacations and whatnot... thanks in advance...
I took these using a 25w halogen spotlight that was about 2ft from the ring and at an 45degree angle from the camera and the camera's flash. Not a studio effect, but I think it showed the ring well... :dunno:

Just make a nice white box(studio) for it. I just used bright white paper to encase it.
Get your tripod and a bright flashlight. Slow shutter speed, adjust white balance. then you can move the flashlight around to get the "sparkling" effect. Worked for me.

You really have to play with it because it will be easy to over expose etc...once you get the shutter speed down and all that jazz it's easy. That picture I posted is raw...no touch ups etc...

PS- I wanna see the ring! I have mine picked out.
