Ive seen 9 * 19 on MP5's too. what does that mean?

its bullet size.. 9x19 is pretty standard. there is alos 9x18 witch is found on several other firearms, most frequently encountered is the Makarov 9mm.. it is chambered in 9x18 not 9x19.

it is 9x19mm, the length of the round.

9mm Makarov is 9x18

.380 ACP is 9x17

etc.
