I know I've faced this issue in the past, but can't recall the exact fix.
The issue is that everytime the laptop goes into either hibernation or standby, when it wakes from this state - the router that it was connected to will no longer assign it an IP.
The laptop is able to see the broadcasted signal - however when attempting to connect to the WAP, it gets hung waiting for the network to respond.
I'll be scouring google throughout the day I'm sure (it's not really a big deal/concern), just a small annoyance. : )
I don't let any of my computers hibernate or sleep. I have them lock after a couple minutes of inactivity though. Windows has NEVER been able to recover properly from those states.

I always wondered why the insist on still using those states. almost every laptop I have had failed to recover frome Hibernation or Sleep modes. Its got to be OS dependent , because OSX loads instantly on my Mac and my Hakintosh.

Reading on-line has lead me to believe that the issue is even further in power saving features. : (
The hibernation/stand-by disables the device - and the only way to get it to snap back to an enabled status is through going to your device manager and adjusting the settings and then restarting.
Not working 100% as of yet - but getting closer.

I have Vista on my laptop and have never once had a problem with it loading correctly after sleep or connecting back to the internet after it comes back from being asleep.
Why do you use hibernation/sleep anyway?

That's about the only thing that works properly in Vista. But yes it works for you.

Normally I'm never on the laptop long enough for it to have been an issue.
I'm away though - and using only the laptop - so at night it was on - and bang: Hibernate/Stand-by kicked on.
I've turned them off - and adjusted all of my power settings since, just wasn't expecting to using the laptop for as much as I've come to rely on it. :dunno:

I've had my Gateway laptop for a year and a half. I always let it hibernate (I close the lid when I'm done with it) and I have only had an issue with the wireless twice. Mostly, it just takes 15-20 seconds from when I log back in until the wireless gets an IP, but its not bad.
And I hibernate because if I don't, the laptop is pretty warm on the bottom if left on for a couple of hours. If its hot, its not good for the components inside, and is a waste of electricity. Since I have no issues with hibernation, there's no reason not to do it.
