how come it sucks so much less than it used to? i mean i don't go out of my way looking for it, but i'll hear a new band and think "damn, that's catchy" and get the cd. then i open the liner notes and see that at the top of all their thank you lists, is jesus everloving christ.
i mean, i like my metal as evil as the next guy, but jesus is pumping out some damn heavy music lately.

hee hee. I went through a see very band on tour phase back in the 80's, and Stryper played at Great Woods in Mass.
I ended up somehow getting front row tix to the sold out show. Not sure how that happened cuz my tix said row 17, but they put us up front, escorted to the front row.
Anyway, I saw these guys that night and I still have the guitar pick and the bible...:lmao:
They actually put on an amazing show believe it or not. Very active on stage, lots of lights, crowd interaction.
But as far as new metal with the hidden message, I'm not a fan.
I prefer that they be upfront about it. Tell me your a christian band, don't sneak it in the liner notes or the lyrics.

^ Agreed - I never saw Stryper live but I did hear they put on a great stage show (what person doesn't like pyrotechnics at a concert, especially back in the 80's?) - I just wasn't into any of their songs
I heard somewhere that Flyleaf was Christian, but again, it could be one of those hidden messages thing that you're not quite sure of. I'm like you, be upfront about it.

Flyleaf is a christian band, they sneak it into the lyrics.
Yeah, the pyro was awesome! They really knew how to interact and get the crowd involved, and I've seen a ton of bands, these guys had that place moving man.
I wasn't a fan of their music, but I made it a point to see every band that toured in the entire new england area that year.
I saw so many bands that I had never seen or even heard of before.
This was also long before ticket master started raping people on prices.
Shows were only $17.50, t-shirts and other for sale items, right around $20.
I never paid more than $25 for a shirt or sweatshirt.
Fuck ticket master!

I can tolerate alot of it. Some of my favorite bands are "christian" bands. Norma Jean, As I lay dying, Demon Hunter, August burns Red, The devil wears prada, Maylene and the sons of disaster... But just like death metal there are some I like and some I cant stand. But I agree Miles, it as come a long way.
Oh yeah Sinai Beach and Zao. If you havent heard them give them a try.

I remember those days...or the $5/$10 ticket prices for 3 bands (even at places like Rock It Club, Killians, Jannus Landing and ML Chasers)...and never more than $15 or $20 for a t-shirt...
...and you didn't have to pay to park at most places either!!! (even in Ybor)
Anyway, back to Christian metal

Yea August burns red is good shit.
A lot of those bands are great. I'm not against the Christian rock that they play, but if they start touring with televangelists, then my love for them is over.

I'm not a fan. If you had read my other posts in this thread, you would have seen where i said I went to every concert from northern Maine to southern Massachusetts one summer.
I saw hundreds of bands that summer. I went to every show, didn't care who they were, I was out enjoying music and having fun.
The stryper story was just a retelling of how well they performed.
I can appreciate the music and the talent without liking the message.
post about the tours.
