I went out with a friend last night to Planet 9 ball. Well, they have bathroom attendants now apparently with the new ownership. The bartender tells me they're "testing the idea".
It got me thinking. Do people have the career goal to be a bathroom attendant. I mean, do they wake up and say "I think I want to hand out soap and paper towels."?
And what's the point of them? The bartender tells me it makes sense cause they keep the bathroom clean.... I said "Apparently not your's...." But there's really no point in having them. I mean... they have soap and paper towel dispensers. So there goes their job security. You should've bought cigs and sprayed your perfume before you left the house. If you think you need to refresh it through the night, bring it with you. Chances are, they don't have your perfume anyway.
And it's not like they get to enjoy the place they work in. They sit on a stool and just wait for people to come in. I don't know about you, but I'd be pretty embarrassed to go in there 5 times in a row if I were to have a sudden case of diarrhea. Do you go in, take your shit and tip her a $10 and tell her "Yeah, that's for the night cause I'll be back!"
Some places you have no choice... like a club I was at not too long ago. The dispensers were empty and she held the soap, so you had no choice but to take it from her. She also kept the paper towels right next to her so you had to "give her the look" to get one.
The mens room had one as well. You know to be a male bathroom attendant you HAVE to be gay. It's pretty much a given. No straight man is going to want to sit around and hand out soap and paper towels when they have to look at cock and hairy ballsack all night. And me, personally, if I were a man and went in there to see a bathroom attendant, you better believe I'll be using the stall every time I have to piss.
Appropriate tipping? How do you tip these people? "Oh, you gave me soap, here's a buck" No!! I could have gotten my own soap if I were ALLOWED to do so. The bartender last night tells me he thinks they work only on tips. So if I give them a dollar for handing me a paper towel, will they be insulted? Probably.
I just don't get it.
