If you want to take your gf to a nice steakhouse, I think you would prefer the atmosphere at Bern's better. Plus there is always the dessert room, depending on your taste of steak, whether filet mignon or a specialty chateaubriand, expect to pay 100 for 2 on the lighter end, up to well, the sky is the limit there, with their incredible wine selection.

Ruth's Chris Steak House is the most overpriced steak place. Their chopped salad, potatoes o gratin and lobster Bisque are very good. Their steak is not that flavorful to me. If I'm going to pay 30+ for a steak, it better taste good as shit. If you love Fillet Mignon. Try Salt Rock grill. Awesome place and right on the water.

Ruth's Chris is good, but not worth the $100+ you'll spend. You can get just as good of a steak at Sam Seltzer, IMO. The service, on the other hand, is hard to match. I was very impressed with the service and the way they handled guests.
Go for Bern's.

You will never have another steak like it. I would recommend Ruth's over Bern's. Bern's seems to be for old people while Ruth's is more hip and younger. Steaks will cost from $34 to $40, or split a huge one for $55-60. You can get a cheap bottle of wine for well under $30, the sides range from $7 to $12 but are absolutely enormous. Best steak in the world. Try it, you won't be disappointed. It actually melts in your mouth.

Yeah that kid is tripping. The best steak I ever had was an age ribeye from Whole Food Markets in Ft. Lauderdale. 20.99 a pound, but well fucking worth it. Didn't even have to season it, really. A little Salt and Pepper and it was the juiciest, most tastiest steak I've ever had. God I wish they had Whole Food Markets here.

My bf took me there last year for my birthday, it was delicious. They even put a giant bouquet of roses on our table for me. They have great service and great food. I heard Bern's has a dessert room, which I would like to check out sometime.

Flarry,
Ruth & Chris is a high end chain available is pretty much every major city. While they aren't as generic as an Applebees, their food is geared to be consistent, and sometimes they risk flavor, and creativity ( ie choices) in turn for consistency.
While I'm not an avid steak eater, if you do indeed choose somewhere nice in Tampa - I've always had great experiences with Side Berns or Charlies, they are local and their menu choices is pretty unique. You may also do Berns as well but I the times I went I didn't feel really comfortable with my surroundings inside of Berns I dont' know why.

Ruth's Chris best steak in the world LOL!
I seriously hope he works for them or something!
Bern's and Capital Grille are just 2 locals that are better than there...
I am a steak enthusiast and traveled to nyc for probably the best steak I have had in the USA, Peter Luger and Wolfgang's Steakhouse, the best porterhouse steak you will have in this country...
Now if you want the best steak in the world, head to Argentina, no meat we get here (unless specially imported) comes close, next in line I would say is Kobe beef from Japan (even though I heard one steakhouse in California carries some). So yeah i'm heading to argentina later this year for some good eating !

Yes. Bern's Dessert Room is the shiznit. But, bring a huge appetite. The dessert room alone is heavy..

Ruths Chris' steaks are great.
I usually go for the cowboy ribeye, although the fillet is good too. I just prefer ribeye steaks
Expect about $200 or so for the tab if you do appetizers, salad, potato, meal, drinks and desserts (remember, its all a-la-carte)
Alot of people dont think so, but I think its on par with Berns and you dont have the (imho) tacky ambiance of berns (nothing against the place, its top notch, I just think some of the things they do are overdone)
If you ever get a chance to go to Morton's, do it. They have the best tasting steaks ever

Is it worth it?
That depends on your point of view. There are people I know that will diss a place just because it is expensive (berns/mortons/ruths chris, etc.) and compare it to a shithole like Sam Seltzers (I mean, come on...) just because they can get in and out of there for under $50.
You have to take the whole package into consideration. Everything is top notch from the food to service to atmosphere.
Its not a dinner factory like Outback and Sam Seltzers where they move people in and out like cattle and service is very questionable.

They have Kobe beef more places than just one in California. I know for a fact at Craft Steak in Vegas they had it and I'm sure many many other places. I pretty sure some place in Orlando has it too if I remember right.
Oh and I've been to Ruth Chris once. I've been to Fleming's once. I've been to Bern's twice in 6 months. You can get out of there spending around $100 if you both get a drink or 2. But if you are getting a bottle of wine and going to the desert room expect $150+. Remember they add some gratuity to every check I believe, but its not enough.

Good to know, I could justify a trip to Vegas more so than just to California, LOL! When I was reviewing different steak type and cut availability California was the only stateside I could come up with. If you remember the one you think might be in Orlando, please post it up : )
Yeah at Bern's if you get just a steak, no extra side, and maybe one drink, you can walk out of there at around $100 for 2. Which you honestly dont need any extra sides as all meals come with soup / bread / baked potatoe; which I applaud Bern's for bc all other steakhouses EVERYTHING is a la carte, however i HIGHLY RECOMMEND their mac & cheese...go ahead laugh... try it and thank me later : ) Oh and yeah they add 12% gratuity, which I found an odd number, for the service you get you are always going to be tipping extra...

Ya if I remember I will post it up. And about Bern's, ya they give you french onion soup with bread, salad, a vegetable and potato with each steak. And me and my gf like filets but the waiters recommended getting a larger chateubriand(sp?) and sharing it.

I am more of a filet guy myself, I tried a chateaubriand last time and it was great, the steak is cut against the grain, which is opposite of the filet, so it threw me off a bit when I first cut into it. Different but great flavor, more so if you like your steak rare or medium rare; personally i'm more of a medium steak guy so filet works out perfect. Now the ideal steak to share between two is a porterhouse! I havent tried the porterhouse at Berns yet, but thats the one to share : )

Their "Kobe" beef is Wagyu beef that is raised in Idaho or Texas, while superior to most steaks (grade 5 or 6), it is not a true Kobe beef from Japan (grade 9)
Council Oak is good, somewhere between Ruth's Chris and Capital Grill.

I just love the flavor of Charley's steaks! I guess it has to do with the hickory wood they cook them over.:D

Charley's Fabulous Filet is the best cut of meat in Tampa. 20oz of perfection. I think the steak alone runs you $70-80 bucks.

Thats good to know. I've never been but have heard mostly good things about the place. How about a more regular sized filet, like 8oz? Thats all I eat and $80 for just the steak is not cheap. Thats about how much bern's is for me and my gf before tip.

Charley's is soooo amazing. I love their steaks.. expensive..but so worth it. I went there for a company Christmas party, and the all expense paid, multiple course meal was to die for. Best steak I've had in Tampa. No great steakhouses in Singapore.. no Kobe steaks here.. boo. I've always wanted to try kobe beef..

Charley's is good, but its not the best steak in Tampa and not the best Filet either. Their strip tastes like shit too. Everything else is good though.

+1!!!! Jeremy and I went there for his b-day last year and it was better than Ruth's Chris and Bern's. Nothing tops Bern's dessert room though. We spent about $175-200 at Bern's with a bottle of wine and dessert, about the same at Ruth's Chris with just mixed drinks and well over $300 at Charley's. But it was sooo good. I would recommend Charley's over any of the others if you can afford it.
