This is not intended as a McCain bashing thread, I just found this story to be interesting.
http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/politics/national/stories/011808dnpolperot.25714a2.html
Dallas billionaire H. Ross Perot has weighed into the GOP presidential contest with a stinging rebuke of John McCain and an endorsement of Mitt Romney.
Mr. Perot told Newsweek magazine that Mr. McCain "is the classic opportunist" who is always reaching for "attention and glory."
"Other POWs won't even sit at the same table with him," the article quoted Mr. Perot as saying.
Mr. McCain could not be reached for comment Thursday, and his campaign didn't return telephone calls.
But the Arizona senator for years has denied the claims Mr. Perot made in the Newsweek story.
Mr. Perot and Mr. McCain have often clashed. Their relationship goes back to when Mr. McCain was a POW in Hanoi.
Mr. Perot told Newsweek that at one point he took care of Mr. McCain's family after Mr. McCain's former wife was in a serious car accident.
"After he came home, he walked with a limp, she [Carol McCain] walked with a limp. So he threw her over for a poster girl with big money from Arizona [Cindy McCain, his current wife], and the rest is history," Mr. Perot said.
He wasn't finished with his criticism.
He carries a grudge against Mr. McCain because he says Mr. McCain ignored evidence that live POWs were left behind in Vietnam. Mr. Perot told Newsweek that some were transferred to the Soviet Union for human experimentation, a charge Mr. Perot says he heard from a senior Vietnamese official in the 1980s.
"There's evidence, evidence, evidence," he says in the article. "McCain was adamant about shutting down anything to do with recovering POWs."
Mr. McCain has said the theory that there were live POWs was a hoax, and he oversaw a congressional hearing on the matter.
That's not good enough for Mr. Perot. He said he would vote for Mr. Romney in the GOP primary.
"When I went to the Naval Academy and met my first Mormons, I asked why so many were excellent officers," Mr. Perot says in the article. "I learned it was because of their strong family unit."
A Romney campaign representative said Thursday the campaign was unaware of Mr. Perot's support but welcomed it.

:serious:
His political views are, but as a political force, he's not very relevant as he majorly pissed off the GOP in 1992 as he let Clinton win (like the Greens did in 2000).

I can understand Perot having issues with McCain's political views, but to get on his case about his POW status? The man was fucking tortured for 5 1/2 years.

Currently in second.
Honestly, how can you say "Ron who"? Surely you've heard of the man who's campaign has already set records for private contributions and has made such huge waves in how "controversial" a candidate on the campaign trail can be.

Say what you want about Perot, but he was very right on several issues, specifically the economy, which he ran on in 1992, he was VERY ANTI-NAFTA, (remeber that whole "giant sucking sound" thing) which has prett much done a great job of sending what few manufacturing jobs we had down to mexico and china

Those contributions, have not effected his less than stellar showing in the primaries it would seem.

thank you for the mature, subject related response....
And once again....when are the primaries over?? Everyone seems to be ruling him out pretty early on...

 Dont brag about that second place win...if it were say 30% to 31%, then yeah that would be good. 51% to 14% not so much. I do have to give him credit though, 14% the highest percentage for him thus far.

Uh, if he's in second, that means he did better than McCain, Huckabee, Thompson, Giuliani, Hunter and Tencredo - respectively.
Everyone's best shot was second in an area so close to SLC. Second was the prize to be had there, as everyone knew Romney would take an area that is highly saturated with LDS members.

2 things will hold him back from that.
(While I am a RP supporter, I do have the abilities of reasoning and common sense- I know he's a HUGE longshot for the oval office, but the point is to make change through him- show what can be done.)
1- Internet presence is based mainly because of his disproportionate amount of computer savvy supporters.
2- Despite how many may support him, history shows that most/many people who would vote for him (date I say, even some supporters) will consider voting for him wasting a vote, so they'll go for someone who's a little less of a "longshot". If people would vote based on convictions alone, I firmly believe he'd have a better shot at the job.

I agree with this. But from now on, I think everyone needs to refrain from typing the words "Ron Paul" in any thread that doesnt have "Ron Paul" in the title :lmao:

+1! I'm curious to see how he does here as there are a lot of people in NY that feel he's a joke and failed the city during 9/11. The UNIONs don't seem to be very fond of him, thats for dam sure and with good reason imo. He won't be getting my vote..

McCain is a Democrat with a R after his name on the ballot. Every thing McCain has had passed with his name on it has gone to shit, just look at his campaign finance garbage as one stellar example. So now people want him to run the country ?
This is not to sound disrespectful because we all know where I stand on the military but the guy is against torture and things like water boarding which causes no permanent damage to anyone and he says it does not work anyway. However it was water boarding that got him to crack when he was a POW.
I see a lot of the liberal media outlets even people like David Letterman poking at Romney constantly ( mostly about his looks which is childish ) so this tells me they are worried about him. Especially since Romney is running on cleaning out Washington. That has to have a lot of people shaking.
