Plagiarism has ruined many a politician. Does anyone think it doesn't count because Obama was friends with the guy who made the original speech?

Clinton Camp Says Obama Plagiarized in Speech
By JEFF ZELENY
Published: February 19, 2008
NILES, Ohio — With the next round of voters set to weigh in on the Democratic presidential race, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton’s campaign on Monday accused Senator Barack Obama of committing plagiarism in a weekend speech. Mr. Obama dismissed the charge as absurd and desperate.

Mr. Obama told reporters he should have credited Gov. Deval Patrick of Massachusetts, a friend, for a passage in a speech he delivered on Saturday in Milwaukee. But Mr. Obama said his rival was “carrying it too far.”
“Let’s see,” Mr. Obama said. “I’ve written two books. I wrote most of my speeches. I would add that I noticed Senator Clinton, on occasion, has used words of mine as well.”

+1 things are coming down the the wire and hillary is getting desperate. Looks like the lesbian/pro-choice/independent women vote she thought would've given her this election isn't doing much for her. Why she would resort to such desperatre tactics really speaks for her character.
Do either of them actually write their own speeches to start with? :dunno:

I don't think it will effect the voters, at least in the primary, it might swing a very small percentage in the general election, but honestly I think it really depends on how the news media portrays it.

I have to admit it is funny to see democrats saying all the same things about the clintons (power-mad, manipulative, vindictive to a fault) that the rebpublicans were saying about them 10 years ago.
I dunno, I think this is going to get REAL ugly before things get sorted out. Political contests that sort themselves out along racial lines tend to be nasty.
Either way, Im still stuck with John McCain, so Im going to get drunk and enjoy the donkey-fight.

The only reason this is a story is because the desperate Clinton camp is asking for it to be a story. Pathetic really but funny to see this is going to blow back on her.
How about all that Republican infighting, errr nevermind.

So what was Clinton supposed to do? In an election this close you're saying she should have sat back and watched. Have you guys seen the original speech and then Obamas? I've seen desperate and this isn't it. This is just politics and pointing it out like it is. The man gave a speech that was given by somebody else.

Since I despise both democratic candidates, I love the infighting between them. The 1968 DNC might just take a backseat as the "biggest party fuck-up in history." But hey, it only took the Democratic party about a decade and a major Republican scandal to regain the White House.
If you want an interesting read, try The Relationship between Divisive Primaries and General Election Outcomes by Patrick J. Kenny and Tom W. Rice.
From the abstract of the article:
Previous research has failed to consider the divisiveness of one party's primary relative to the other party's primary when assessing the impact of divisiLeness on general election outcomes. Using ordinary least-squares regression, we find that divisive presidential primaries do indeed have a deleterious effect on the general election results. Specifically, when one party has a divisive primary season while the other party's nominee is essentially uncontested, then the divided party will be adversely affected in November.
Basically, the more fighting these two idiots do, the larger the divide will be in the Democratic party and the more it will hurt them in November. :)

I don't think they can hurt themselves as much as the Republican party has hurt themselves over the years. Probably the best way to handle this would be to have CLinton as president and Obama as VP or vice versa. I'm not too concerned about it. The public wants change and McCain isn't bringing that to the table.

Thing is, I don't think Hillary is willing to play second fiddle, and if she gets much nastier the chances of Obama being willing to veep for her will be extremely slim.
I think were in for a brutal primary, and I don't see either side conceeding without a fight given the unseated delegates and shady stuff going on with the superdelegates.

Not to mention the backlash by registered Democrats who are just now realizing that the party "of the people" doesn't give a shit about popular vote. Go superdelegates, go!:lmao:

Obsessive, unnecessary and wreckless spending? Check.
Trample civil rights? Check.
Wipe your ass with the Constitution? Check.
Same two families in the White House for 20 years? Check.

I know, this whole damn election cycle has about the same sensation as being plucked from a Cigar bar (adult beverage and Macanudo in hand) and being plopped down in the middle of a 3rd grade lunchroom.

Well, I can't answer to that, but I can tell you our side won't result to the absurd theatrics of the left (really the adult equivalent of a childs temper tantrum) has subjected us to for the last 8 years.
Most of us know how to keep our dignity about us, learn from our mistakes, and improve our strategies. Funny that so little introspection happens on the other side of things.

Whens the last time you saw right wingers dancing around in the streets with giant puppets of democrats while openly supporting millitary enemies of our nation?
Cause I sure as shit don't remember that during the Clinton administration, and that isn't what I would call dignified beahaivior.

Lotsa puppets here, my favorite is the ugly lady with the sign about giving blowjobs for impeachment:

Here we have Giant Bush puppet at MIT for war protest:

This one is NSFW for a variety of reasons, mainly the naked people humping trees. It has a bush puppet being hung in effigy towards the end:

This one is extensive enough that it needed categories, as its from the "Insurgence Solidarity March":

This one has naked men walking down the street in front of children, and a fat bat-girl wannabe beating up a dude with a papermache bush head:

Heres how the lefties dealt with the Bush victory in '04:

I wouldn't really call those people Democrats or Republicans. I'd call most of them crazy. I wouln't lump them into one sum though. There will always be crazy people on all sides that do wierd crazy things. According to your definition anyone against the Iraq war is supporting the enemy. If I were to use your logic I would be saying that the crazy lady that goes to soldiers funerals to say God hates fags is a Republican and they all act the same. There's no excuse. Like I said I've never seen it this bad. It's like a cult. Use the forum as an example. Just the very name Clinton drives people mad.
Also, check this out. I can go on the web and find much right wing propaganda just as bad as what you posted or worse.

Now heres a point: If Bush & CO were nearly as bad as all these folks say, wouldn't they be rounded up and sent to camps? Prison? Shot?
Thats the irony of this. They defame our government while claiming solidarity with groups and nations who routinely imprision and murder those who disagree with them. They are the ultimate hypocrites, and they are too self righteous to see it.
I think it was Stalin who coined the term "Useful idiots" for their like, and it still fits well in this day and age.

The funny thing is that on Meet The Press yesterday they showed Hillary did the same thing. Parts of one of her speeches were almost verbatim from one Bill did during his first run for president. They also showed Hillary stealing lines from John Edwards.
